Bank of Ireland Secures Billions in Demand for Green Bond Issue
29.03.2026 - 10:17:00 | boerse-global.deInstitutional investor appetite for Bank of Ireland's debt has been demonstrated by the overwhelming reception to its latest bond sale. The bank successfully raised fresh capital on the international debt markets through a green bond issuance that was multiple times oversubscribed, highlighting its ambitions to strengthen its leadership in sustainable finance within Ireland.
Favorable Terms and Strategic Focus
The transaction saw Bank of Ireland raise a total of €750 million. Investor interest, however, far exceeded this amount, with the order book surpassing €2.2 billion, making the issue more than three times oversubscribed. Approximately 135 international investors participated.
A key achievement was the pricing. The bank secured a spread of 100 basis points over the reference rate, which represents the most favorable terms for an Irish senior debt instrument since 2021. The proceeds are earmarked for environmental projects, reinforcing the strategic emphasis on sustainable financing. This segment grew by 20 percent in the last financial year, reaching €17.7 billion. Bank of Ireland aims to nearly double its green lending volume to €30 billion by 2030. Growth is expected to be driven primarily by private mortgage financing and green corporate loans in its core Irish market, where the bank holds a 42 percent share of the mortgage market.

Technical Caution Amid Fundamental Strength
While the bond placement was a success, a note of caution emerges from technical analysis. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) currently stands at 87.5, indicating the stock may be significantly overbought in the short term. This technical signal contrasts with underlying fundamental strengths. These include a solid Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) ratio of 15.1 percent and an ongoing share buyback program worth over €530 million. Market analysts view the successful bond issuance amid broader market volatility as a sign of the bank's robust liquidity position.
Shareholder Calendar and Forward Outlook
Investor attention now turns to the upcoming dividend distribution for the 2025 financial year. The bank has confirmed the following key dates:
- Ex-dividend date: 23 April 2026
- Record date: 24 April 2026
- Payment date: 09 June 2026
The dividend is set at 45.00 cent per share. Looking further ahead, management forecasts a net interest income of approximately €3.4 billion for the full 2026 financial year. This projection is supported by an expected loan growth of around 4 percent in its core markets of Ireland and the United Kingdom.
