Amazon is set to launch its revamped Kindle Scribe lineup in the UK and Germany on April 8, marking the product's first international rollout outside the United States. This hardware push arrives as the company's shares navigate a challenging market climate characterized by rising costs and discontent among its third-party sellers.

Market Pressures and Technical Signals

The stock has faced significant pressure since the start of the year, declining approximately six percent and trading notably below its 200-day moving average of 193 euros. A concerning technical pattern emerged in March 2026: the 50-day moving average crossed below the 200-day average, forming what market technicians refer to as a "death cross."

A primary source of investor skepticism centers on Amazon's massive capital commitments to artificial intelligence. The company has outlined planned capital expenditures of around $200 billion for 2026, a substantial increase from the $131 billion spent the previous year. This aggressive investment strategy raises questions about future returns, despite solid recent performance. In Q4 2025, overall revenue grew by 14 percent, with Amazon Web Services (AWS) posting an impressive 24 percent gain.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Amazon?

European Launch Details

The Kindle Scribe and the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft will make their official European debut on April 8. Pricing in Germany will start at 519.99 euros for the standard Kindle Scribe and 649.99 euros for the Colorsoft model. These devices feature an 11-inch color E-Ink display, promise a 40 percent improvement in writing and page-turning speed, and incorporate AI-powered notebook functionalities. European customers have waited several months for the Colorsoft, which initially launched in the U.S. in December 2025.

Marketplace Friction Builds

Adding to the company's challenges, Amazon will implement a new 3.5 percent logistics surcharge on fees for third-party sellers using its Fulfillment by Amazon service, effective April 17. The company cites increased oil prices due to the ongoing five-week Iran conflict as the reason, with the change adding an average of 17 U.S. cents per order. This surcharge will expand to cover Buy-with-Prime and Multi-Channel transactions starting May 2.

While Amazon has labeled the fee as temporary, it acknowledged to TechCrunch that the surcharge would remain in place "for the foreseeable future." Seller frustration is mounting, especially as logistics rivals UPS and FedEx have also raised their fuel surcharges.

Upcoming Earnings in Focus

All eyes will turn to Amazon's first-quarter 2026 results, scheduled for release on April 29. Market analysts are poised to scrutinize whether the softer performance indicators from Q4 2025 were an anomaly or the beginning of a trend, particularly regarding margin progression under the weight of the company's substantial AI investments.
