Wienerberger's Analyst Reset: Two Houses Cut Targets as the Brickmaker Counts Down to November 12

Jefferies, Berenberg and Wiener Privatbank cut Wienerberger price targets to the mid-teens as the brickmaker trims its 2026 EBITDA guidance again.

The sell-side is converging on a sobering view of Wienerberger, and the numbers tell the story of a building-materials group caught between a stalled housing cycle and costs that keep climbing. Within a matter of days, two separate research houses have slashed their price targets on the Austrian brickmaker, both landing only marginally above where the stock currently trades.

Jefferies opened coverage on Tuesday with a "Hold" rating and a target of EUR 16. Berenberg had already moved first, on Friday, cutting its objective from EUR 25.00 to EUR 19.00 while keeping a "Buy" recommendation. Wiener Privatbank followed on Monday, dropping its fair value estimate from EUR 23.10 to EUR 16.40 and maintaining a "Hold" stance. The clustering of these revisions around the mid-teens says as much about the industry's headwinds as it does about Wienerberger itself.

A Stock Pinned Near Its Low

The shares closed Tuesday at EUR 15.30, leaving them just 1.8% above their 52-week trough of EUR 15.03. By another session the stock was changing hands at EUR 15.55, a modest gain of 1.6% on the day — a sliver of relief in a year that has seen the equity lose 49% of its value since January.

That bruising decline frames the caution now emanating from the analyst community. Berenberg's Harry Goad acknowledged the difficult operating backdrop and said no meaningful near-term improvement is on the cards, though he argued the stock holds promise over the medium term once housing demand recovers and cost pressures ease. Wiener Privatbank's Nicolas Kneip struck a similar tone, pointing to a market environment that will remain challenging in the short to medium term. A swift revival in new-build activity looks unlikely, he noted, and the renovation and infrastructure segments are expected to feel the pinch of persistent inflation as well.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Wienerberger?

Guidance Cut Twice Over

Behind the downgrades lies a deteriorating earnings picture. Wienerberger trimmed its full-year 2026 operating EBITDA forecast to EUR 640–650 million. According to APA news agency reports, the company had originally targeted more than EUR 800 million before adjusting that figure to roughly EUR 700 million in July — meaning the latest revision marks the second retreat in a matter of months.

For the third quarter, management has guided toward operating EBITDA of approximately EUR 170–180 million on revenue of EUR 1.2–1.3 billion. The culprits are familiar to anyone tracking European construction: a markedly weaker new-build market, particularly in the UK and North America, compounded by sharp increases in raw material, energy, and logistics costs that began making themselves felt at the end of August.

In response, Wienerberger has pledged to accelerate existing cost-reduction programs and to review strategic options. Analysts expect operational countermeasures to include capacity adjustments and temporary plant shutdowns as the group moves to align output with softer demand.

UBS Trims Its Holding

Amid the reassessment, a regulatory filing revealed a shift in the shareholder base. UBS reduced its position in voting rights and financial instruments to 3.96% as of an October 8 record date, down from a previously reported 4.09%.

All Eyes on November 12

The next real test comes on November 12, 2026, when Wienerberger publishes results for the first nine months of the year. Management has promised that the same release will include an update on the progress of its accelerated savings programs and its ongoing strategic review. For investors trying to gauge how deep the operational dip runs — and whether the countermeasures are gaining traction — that date now serves as the single most anticipated item on the calendar.
