Renk Shares 47% Below Peak Despite Analyst Optimism

The gap between what Wall Street thinks Renk is worth and where its shares actually trade has rarely been wider. With the Augsburg-based defence supplier sitting roughly 47 percent below its 52-week peak of 90.20 euros, the equity is caught between a wall of bullish analyst ratings and a market that remains unconvinced.

JPMorgan has been the most vocal supporter, reaffirming its "Overweight" stance on 18 August with a price target of 75 euros. The following day, reports from Reuters and dpa indicated the bank had flagged Renk as an attractive takeover candidate — a notion that briefly sparked an intraday pop of roughly 3.2 to 3.7 percent. The stock closed last Friday at 47.67 euros, a level that underscores just how far the share price sits from the bank's implied upside.

The optimism is hardly confined to one institution. Barclays initiated coverage on 11 August with an "Overweight" rating and a 60-euro target. Deutsche Bank confirmed its "Buy" recommendation on 14 August, while Rothschild & Co Redburn raised its price target and reaffirmed "Buy" on 10 August — the same day Warburg Research renewed its own buy call. DZ Bank had already issued a "Buy" rating on 7 August. The consensus, in short, is decisively constructive.

Yet one voice refuses to join the chorus. mwb research kept Renk at "Hold" on 20 August, pointing specifically to a high proportion of so-called soft orders in the company's book. The caution cuts against the celebratory tone that has accompanied Renk's recent order announcements — not every entry in the backlog, the firm argues, is firmly contracted and therefore a dependable revenue base for the years ahead.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk Group?

That skepticism lands at an awkward moment. The half-year figures released in August, covering the period through 30 June, showed record order intake and a disproportionately strong rise in adjusted EBIT. Management also confirmed that its 2026 annual guidance remains on track. The tension between those operational metrics and mwb's reservations is likely to keep investors guessing in the weeks ahead.

The broader sector has provided some support. A wave of orders at Vincorion lifted European defence stocks in mid-August, according to a dpa report, with Renk mentioned in the sector context. Days earlier, TKMS — the Thyssenkrupp subsidiary — raised its full-year expectations after strong results, a move market watchers read as another tailwind for European defence valuations.

None of that has been enough to move the needle decisively. The shares are also trading 9.3 percent below their 200-day moving average, and on a year-to-date basis the stock is down 12 percent. A recent voting rights notification — a routine regulatory filing under Article 40 of the German Securities Trading Act — carries little significance on its own, but it arrives against this backdrop of persistent underperformance.

The core question for investors remains straightforward: will the valuation gap that JPMorgan and Barclays have identified actually close, or do concerns about order book quality keep those ambitious price targets out of reach? For now, the tape is voting with the skeptics.
