OHB's Analyst Tailwind Meets a Technical Headwind

OHB SE shares fall 20% in seven sessions, trading below €200, even as Oddo BHF initiates with Outperform and €290 target, citing strong fundamentals.

The gap between what analysts see in OHB SE and what the chart shows has rarely been wider. Oddo BHF initiated coverage of the Bremen-based space group on Wednesday with an "Outperform" rating and a €290 price target — a level that sits roughly 52 percent above where the shares currently trade.

The market, however, was in no mood to celebrate. The stock slipped 3.5 percent on the day to €190.20, extending a slide that has now erased 20 percent of the share price in just seven trading sessions. The secondary source's data confirms the severity: the shares closed Tuesday at €198.20, down 17 percent over the same week-long stretch.

A Technical Breakdown That Won't Quit

The selling pressure has a clear technical fingerprint. After a failed breakout attempt at the €265–275 resistance zone in mid-August, the shares have fallen steeply and punched through the €222–228 support band. Media reports indicate the stock has even dipped below the psychologically important €200 mark — a breach that chartists read as a distinctly bearish signal. The Relative Strength Index sits at 30.6, deep in oversold territory, yet no stabilization has materialized.

What makes the slide notable is what hasn't stopped it. The SDAX index inclusion, the multibillion-euro IRIS2 satellite contract, and the company's half-year results all generated brief bursts of attention in recent weeks — none managed to reverse the downward momentum. The shares now trade well below their 50-day moving average of €265.01, underscoring the disconnect between near-term price weakness and the more optimistic analyst targets.

The Bull Case Remains on the Table

Oddo BHF's move is the first documented coverage of OHB by the house and joins a generally constructive analyst consensus. Jefferies had previously left its "Buy" rating and €280 price target intact, though that call is now more than two weeks old and no longer reflects the current market consensus.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying OHB SE?

The fundamental narrative backing those targets is substantial. OHB reported first-half 2026 total output of €627.9 million, up 11 percent year on year. Adjusted EBITDA climbed 31 percent, while adjusted EBIT rose 46 percent. The order book has grown to just over €3.3 billion, and management confirmed its full-year guidance of €1.4 billion in total output with an EBITDA margin between 10.5 and 11.0 percent.

The company has also been active on the strategic front. A joint venture with Rheinmetall, dubbed "OHB Rheinmetall Space Networks," was established in early summer to pursue military satellite communications under the SATCOMBw Level 4 program. A capital increase brought in gross proceeds of €480 million to fund production expansion, lunar projects, and potential acquisitions. The Fuchs family retains majority control, with KKR holding roughly 20 percent.

Sector Tailwinds and a Persistent Overhang

The broader environment for OHB remains supportive despite the share-price weakness. A mid-August report about a European satellite network briefly lifted the stock, following earlier news that an IRIS2-related contract had weighed on competitor Airbus while positioning OHB as a potential beneficiary. An order boom at defense supplier Vincorion was also read as an indirect positive for the sector.

Yet one overhang continues to weigh on sentiment: Rocket Factory Augsburg, OHB's subsidiary in the small-launcher segment. Media reports indicate the company's first test flight has been delayed yet again after fuel tank issues forced the rocket to be removed from the launch pad for inspection. For investors hoping for an early milestone in Europe's small-rocket race, it is another disappointment.

A Two-Sided Picture for Investors

The operational news flow, meanwhile, continues to deliver. On Tuesday, OHB announced that its EMS training suit "EasyMotion-2" had been qualified for experiments aboard the International Space Station, where it will be used to study muscle atrophy in zero gravity — research with implications for long-duration spaceflight. The capital market shrugged.

That juxtaposition captures the current dilemma. The fundamental story — confirmed guidance, index promotion, sector tailwinds, and a fresh analyst endorsement with a price target far above the current level — remains intact. The technical picture, however, shows a stock in a persistent downtrend that has so far shrugged off every piece of good news.

Whether Oddo BHF's €290 target proves prescient depends largely on whether the selling pressure of the past seven sessions begins to ease. For now, the market is pricing in the risks — the RFA delay chief among them — while the analysts are pricing in the substance.
