Nokia's AI Offensive Nets Microsoft Alliance and a Euro STOXX 50 Comeback

Nokia's push to embed artificial intelligence across telecom infrastructure is gathering commercial momentum, with a fresh Microsoft partnership landing the same week that the Finnish vendor confirmed its return to one of Europe's benchmark equity gauges.
The Microsoft tie-up, unveiled Thursday, will see the two companies build a unified, agent-based data foundation for network operators. Microsoft supplies the software and technology layer, while Nokia contributes its expertise as a communications network equipment maker. The goal is to give carriers expanded data capacity and a common platform on which to automate mobile networks more broadly — a response to operators' growing need to run increasingly complex infrastructure efficiently.
That announcement followed Wednesday's update on Nokia's AI-RAN platform, which has now moved beyond pure evaluation into lab and live field trials. Eight global carriers are taking part, among them A1 Group, Chunghwa Telecom, du, e&, Mobily, stc, TPG Telecom and Zain Saudi. Nokia is using NVIDIA's Aerial RAN Computer to power the platform, which the company says delivers spectrum efficiency gains of more than 20%.
Defense, Optical and Security Deals Stack Up
Beyond radio access, Nokia logged a string of operational wins across infrastructure and security. Its Nokia Defense unit struck a partnership Wednesday with UK specialist C3IA Solutions to accelerate digital transformation in Britain's defense sector. The company had earlier introduced Cognitive Operations, a platform aimed at demanding environments such as mining, construction and public safety.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nokia?
On the network infrastructure side, Telxius began deploying Nokia's pluggable optical 800G modules built on IP-over-DWDM technology on Tuesday. The gear is being rolled out across terrestrial transport networks in Europe, the US and Latin America to meet capacity demands from data centers and cloud applications. A day earlier, Spanish internet exchange ESpanix disclosed its adoption of the Deepfield Defender security system to shield traffic from DDoS attacks. In the US, Planters Broadband Cooperative selected Nokia to build an AI-capable fiber network serving communities in southeastern Georgia.
Analyst Upgrades and a 67% Year-to-Date Climb
The run of announcements has drawn a favorable response on the financial markets. Rosenblatt Securities upgraded the stock to "Strong Buy" on Wednesday, according to media reports, while B. Riley Financial initiated coverage Thursday with a buy rating and a price target of USD 15.00.
Investor confidence is visible in the share price. Nokia closed Friday's session at EUR 9.35, putting the stock up 67% since the start of the year.
A further technical catalyst is already locked in. Reuters reported that Nokia will rejoin the Euro STOXX 50 at the open next Monday, replacing automaker Volkswagen in the blue-chip index as part of STOXX's annual review. The index provider had flagged the change roughly two weeks in advance, setting the re-entry date at September 21, 2026.
