Lenzing's €301 Million Is In the Bank — Now Comes the Hard Part
Published on 10/24/2026 at 10:30 | Editorial boerse-global.deLenzing has closed the books on its rights issue, and the paper trail now shows exactly who signed up. Filings published yesterday confirm that B&C KB Holding and Oberbank took part in the capital measure by exercising subscription rights — B&C KB Holding picking up 8,689,086 shares on Thursday and Oberbank 1,344,177, both at the subscription price of EUR 8.65 apiece.
Those disclosures are a receipt for participation in the financing, not a fresh buy signal. The distinction matters: exercising rights is a mechanical step inside the capital increase, separate from any purchases on the open market. Investors should not read an operational recovery into them.
A boardroom vote of confidence, sized to scale
Add a personal transaction to the corporate ones. Lenzing executive board member Christian Skilich bought 1,710 shares on the Vienna Stock Exchange yesterday, also at EUR 8.65 — the same price at which the new shares were issued. It is a modest ticket, and no motive can be inferred from it, but it does put a member of the management team on the register alongside the two institutional holders.
The offering itself wrapped up this week with a gross proceeds figure of EUR 301.2 million. Subscription rights accounted for 99% of the offer, with the syndicate banks placing the remainder on the market. A take-up rate that high speaks to broad use of the offer; it says nothing about how quickly the funded measures will show through in the business.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Lenzing?
Where the money is headed
Lenzing intends to deploy the proceeds to shore up its capital structure and to back its "Grow Nonwovens, Reset Textiles" strategy. The inflow therefore serves two purposes at once — balance-sheet protection and the strategic overhaul — and the subscription filings attest to backing for the plan, not to its results.
How demanding that overhaul remains is illustrated by the timetable at Heiligenkreuz in the Lafnitztal. A company spokesperson attributed the delay to the production transfer, saying Lenzing wants to work through existing inventories and keep customers supplied without interruption until the switch is complete.
The window has shifted from the originally planned end of 2026 to the first quarter of 2027. According to ORF, the site employs roughly 285 people. The revised plan describes a transition rather than an immediate halt: stockpiling and relocation are to precede the shutdown, and no earnings effect can yet be booked against it.
Lenzing at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
The next checkpoint is the quarterly report
For shareholders, the line to draw runs between financial backing and operational delivery. The rights exercises and the boardroom purchase settle the first question — who paid in, and at what price. Whether the financed restructuring pays off will be settled by execution and by the quarterly figures due next, which offer the cleanest way to judge the strategy separately from the capital raise.
The share purchase adds one more data point to the picture. It replaces neither earnings numbers nor an assessment of progress on the turnaround — and that is precisely where attention now turns.
