Bayer's Pipeline Momentum Meets a Cautious Profit Forecast Ahead of November 3

Bayer has given investors two very different kinds of news in the space of a week: a clinical trial moving into first-line treatment and a regulatory filing accepted by US authorities. Neither, however, answers the question JPMorgan's latest note raises — whether the group's operating profit can keep pace with its revenue.

Analyst Richard Vosser reaffirmed an "Overweight" rating on the stock yesterday, with a price target of 61 euros. Bayer closed Friday at €44.19, well below that mark. The endorsement comes with a caveat that matters for anyone reading the upcoming quarterly figures: Vosser sees sales running 2% above consensus, but EBITDA 6% below it. He also expects the company to stand by its full-year guidance — a combination that would leave the profit shortfall intact rather than resolve it.

Two Pharma Milestones, Two Different Stages

On the pipeline side, the subsidiary Vividion Therapeutics reported Thursday that the first patient has been treated in a global Phase II study. The trial tests VVD-214 in combination with pembrolizumab in previously untreated patients with advanced colorectal cancer, specifically those whose tumours carry MSI-H or dMMR characteristics. Bayer describes the move as an expansion of the clinical programme into first-line use — a clearly defined patient group, and a treatment start rather than a readout.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Bayer?

Finerenon, marketed as Kerendia, sits at a different point on the timeline. Roughly a week ago, the FDA accepted Bayer's application to extend approval to chronic kidney disease in patients without diabetes, backed by positive results from the Phase III FIND-CKD trial. Acceptance is a procedural step; it is not the same as an approval, and it says nothing about near-term earnings.

A $2.2 Billion Bet on American Manufacturing

Separately, about two weeks ago, Bayer announced a $2.2 billion investment in a new pharmaceutical production site in New Albany, Ohio, with roughly 600 new jobs planned. Like the pipeline updates, this is an announced commitment rather than a contribution to current results — it sits alongside the short-term profit question, not in place of it.

The Calendar Sets the Test

Bayer will publish third-quarter 2026 results and its quarterly statement on 3 November 2026, with the release scheduled for 07:30 CET and the analyst call at 14:00 CET. That is when the market can check whether Vosser's forecast of higher sales paired with weaker EBITDA actually materialises — and whether the guidance holds. Clinical progress, regulatory filings and operating numbers each tell their own story; the quarterly report is the only one of the three with a fixed date.
