Bank of America Boost Lifts Hensoldt Above a Sliding Defense Sector

Hensoldt shares bucked a broad pullback across European defense names on Monday, climbing 2.4% to EUR 78.04 after Bank of America raised its price target on the military electronics group to EUR 94. The U.S. bank kept its "Buy" rating on the stock and added it to its "Small- and Midcap Europe Best Ideas" selection list, according to dpa-AFX.
The upgrade stood out against a rough session for the sector. Rheinmetall and RENK both came under selling pressure at the same time, leaving Hensoldt as one of the few names in the space to push higher.
Bavaria Pledges Support for Defense-Tech Expansion
Political backing arrived in parallel. On Monday, Bavarian Economy Minister Hubert Aiwanger assured Hensoldt of the state's support in strengthening the region's defense-tech ecosystem, and held out the prospect of investment-friendly conditions.
Talks between Aiwanger and company management centered on the coming industrial ramp-up as well as possible expansion and investment plans. The two sides also addressed recruitment and retention of skilled workers, supply-chain stability and future cooperation agreements — all aimed at meeting the expected demand for modern weapons electronics from a position of strength.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Hensoldt?
The political gesture came at an opportune moment. Europe's security industry is under pressure to scale manufacturing capacity quickly while competing for qualified staff, and sustained demand from armed forces for advanced sensor systems makes dependable conditions at Hensoldt's Bavarian sites a priority.
A Stabilizing Stock After a Volatile Stretch
The show of support from Munich followed a turbulent period for defense equities more broadly. Hensoldt had come under noticeable selling pressure amid sector-wide declines, with market observers linking investor caution to comments by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio about an invitation to Vladimir Putin for the G20 summit. No verified connection between those remarks and the share price move was ever established.
The stock steadied on Tuesday, closing up 1.0% at EUR 76.20 — setting the stage for the Bank of America-driven advance that followed.
Optarion Contract and a Key November Date
On the operational front, Hensoldt confirmed in September that it had secured a development contract from the Bundesamt für Ausrüstung, Informationstechnik und Nutzung der Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) for the Optarion mission support system. The order carries a volume of EUR 15 million and covers further development work on the platform.
Hensoldt at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
Investors will get a clearer read on the year's progress in late autumn. Hensoldt has scheduled publication of its quarterly statement for the first nine months — and its third-quarter 2026 financial results — for November 5.
That interim report should shed light on how the company's well-stocked order book is translating into earnings metrics. The focus will be on the pace of the industrial ramp-up and how effectively Hensoldt navigates persistent challenges in global supply chains.
