POET Technologies shares jump 27% after landing a $5M production order for Infinity optical engines, as the company navigates Marvell's cancellation and targets 30,000-unit delivery in 2026.

POET Technologies shares surged more than 27 percent on Tuesday to close at $13.90, as investors latched onto a $5 million production order for the company's Infinity optical engines. The rally marks a tentative recovery from the shock of Marvell Semiconductor's abrupt cancellation of all purchase orders related to Celestial AI, a blow that sent the stock tumbling in late April. Now the focus turns to whether POET can execute its ambitious production ramp without its anchor customer.

Marvell terminated its outstanding purchase orders on April 23, alleging a breach of confidentiality by POET. The loss removes a significant revenue stream from a company that was just transitioning from development to commercial volumes. Yet management has held firm on its full-year delivery target of more than 30,000 optical engines, aiming to demonstrate that the business can thrive independently of the Marvell-Celestial AI relationship.

Financial firepower is not the problem. POET raised over $225 million in the fourth quarter of 2025 and added another $150 million in January 2026, giving it a combined cash cushion of roughly $375 million. That war chest is earmarked for manufacturing capacity and customer programs, with production facilities in Malaysia being prepared for higher volumes. Light-source production is slated to begin in the second quarter, followed by 800G engines in the third.

The next reality check comes on May 22, when POET reports first-quarter results. Consensus estimates diverge: some analysts see revenue of about $250,000 with a net loss of $0.04 per share, while others project a somewhat higher $350,000 top line. For the full year, the most optimistic forecasts pencil in earnings per share of $0.02 — a small profit that would require flawless execution of the 30,000-unit target. A year earlier, the company reported just $170,000 in revenue for the comparable quarter.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying POET Technologies?

Market valuation reflects the enormous premium investors are placing on that potential. At around $1.67 billion in market capitalization, POET is trading at roughly 6,700 times trailing quarterly revenue. The negative price-to-earnings ratio of roughly -19.60 underscores that the stock is a bet on future growth, not current profitability.

Beyond the numbers, POET faces structural and legal hurdles. Shareholders will vote on June 26 on a proposal to reincorporate from Canada to the United States, a move intended to alleviate tax complications stemming from the company's classification as a Passive Foreign Investment Company. Separately, multiple class-action lawsuits are working their way through the courts following the late-April share-price collapse. The deadline for lead plaintiff filings falls on June 29, adding a layer of legal uncertainty that could weigh on sentiment.

Technically, Tuesday's rally carried the stock back toward resistance levels last seen before the Marvell news. The shares now sit well above key moving averages, signaling short-term momentum but also leaving them vulnerable to a pullback. The spread between current price and fundamental support has widened — a pattern that often invites profit-taking.

POET Technologies at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

For now, POET is a story of high ambition, deep pockets, and unresolved risks. The production order buys time, but the real test will be whether the company can convert its pipeline into recurring revenue, keep the lawsuits at bay, and convince the market that its independence is an asset, not a liability. The May 22 earnings call will be the first major data point in that assessment.
