Westpac reported a mixed fiscal 2026 result on Monday, November 2, with lending growth and a stronger capital position offsetting a lower statutory profit. The bank announced the result in a Westpac media release.

Statutory net profit fell 1 percent from fiscal 2025 to 6.8 billion Australian dollars. Net profit excluding notable items was 7.0 billion Australian dollars and unchanged from the prior year, according to the bank. Westpac also reported a CET1 capital ratio of 12.5 percent, above its 11.25 percent target for normal operating conditions.

Lending growth supports the result

Customer deposits increased 6 percent during the year and lending rose 5 percent. Business lending expanded 12 percent, while institutional lending gained 18 percent as demand for credit remained strong among corporate customers. Westpac said revenue growth was strongest in its Business and Institutional division and that consumer revenue increased 2 percent.

Chief Executive Officer Anthony Miller said the bank had improved customer experience, grown its core businesses and maintained a strong balance sheet while investing in transformation. Westpac said it hired more bankers, opened three regional service centres and introduced its Community Banking Service in 14 locations.

The bank is also increasing its focus on technology. Westpac said 95 percent of its employees were using artificial intelligence tools and that it was investing in the foundations needed to scale AI responsibly. The initiatives add to transformation spending while management continues to emphasize cost discipline.

Dividend remains central for investors

Westpac declared a fully franked final dividend of 77 Australian cents per share. The dividend is scheduled to be paid on December 21, 2026, with the record date set for November 6, according to the bank's Investor Centre. The payment provides a key income component for shareholders after a year in which statutory profit declined.

Westpac also announced a target to facilitate 100 billion Australian dollars in housing-related lending by 2030. The bank said it helped more than 190,000 Australians purchase a home during fiscal 2026 and that first-party mortgage origination remained a priority.

Rates remain a forward risk

Management said the Australian economy was holding up relatively well, supported by business investment and continued credit demand. At the same time, Westpac said inflation remained above the Reserve Bank of Australia's target range and that interest rates were likely to remain elevated into 2027. That outlook could keep pressure on household finances and borrowing demand even as business lending provides support.

Westpac stock traded at 22.87 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 09:36 CET on Thursday, November 5, 2026.
