The Bitcoin treasury playbook has a new chapter, and it begins with a halt. Strategy, the corporate bitcoin holder formerly known as MicroStrategy, has temporarily suspended its weekly token purchases, leaving its war chest at 818,334 BTC. The decision comes just ahead of the company’s first-quarter earnings report due after Tuesday’s market close, a timing that has investors parsing the interplay between its digital-asset strategy and its capital-markets machinery.

The Portfolio Snapshot

The company’s bitcoin holdings were acquired at an average price of roughly $75,537 per coin, representing a total investment of about $61.81 billion. At current market prices, that portfolio is valued at approximately $64.4 billion, reflecting a modest paper gain. The last acquisition occurred in late April, when Strategy scooped up 3,273 BTC for around $255 million.

The suspension of purchases marks the first week since the start of the year that the company has not added to its stash. The move is widely seen as a tactical pause rather than a strategic retreat, with the earnings call expected to provide clarity on future buying intentions.

The Financing Engine Keeps Humming

Even as the buying spree takes a breather, the capital-raising machine continues to operate. Through its at-the-market (ATM) equity program, Strategy recently sold roughly 492,000 shares, generating net proceeds of $82 million. The remaining capacity under this facility stands at a hefty $26.39 billion, giving the company ample firepower to resume acquisitions once the earnings dust settles.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Strategy?

The company’s balance sheet shows total debt of $8.25 billion against cash and equivalents of $2.25 billion. Analysts are watching closely to see how management balances its debt load with its bitcoin accumulation ambitions. The preferred equity instrument STRC, which carries an 11.5% dividend yield and trades below its $100 par value, has also drawn scrutiny. Critics question whether the payout model is sustainable when it relies heavily on capital-market transactions to fund distributions.

What the Numbers Might Show

For the first quarter of 2026, the consensus revenue estimate falls between $120 million and $125 million, representing year-over-year growth of roughly 10% to 13%. The earnings-per-share picture is far murkier. Estimates range from a loss of $3.41 to a loss of $27.33 per share, a spread that underscores the difficulty of applying traditional valuation models to a company whose primary asset is a volatile cryptocurrency.

The wide range reflects the mark-to-market accounting treatment of digital assets, which can produce large non-cash charges or gains depending on bitcoin’s price movements. Analysts caution that the reported loss, if it materializes, is a bookkeeping artifact rather than a sign of operational distress.

Market Sentiment and the Road Ahead

The stock has rallied roughly 38% over the past month, trading at €156.30 — about 28% above its 50-day moving average. Despite the recent bounce, the shares remain roughly 60% below their 52-week high, a reminder of the volatility that comes with the territory.

Strategy at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

The analyst community remains broadly bullish. Multiple firms maintain buy ratings, with an average price target near $373. The central debate now centers on whether Strategy’s financing structure can support CEO Michael Saylor’s stated goal of accumulating one million bitcoin by the end of 2026.

Tuesday’s earnings call will be the first real test of that narrative. Investors will be listening for any signals about when the buying pause will end, how the company plans to manage its dividend obligations, and whether the balance sheet can withstand further bitcoin price swings. The market’s verdict will likely come within hours of the numbers hitting the tape.
