PepsiCo stock outlook cut as North American reset deepens

- International operations delivered strong growth while North American execution remained the main operational challenge.
- Management plans additional structural cost reductions to fund innovation, brand building and marketplace execution.
- The next major test is the fourth-quarter update and the company's first detailed outlook for 2027.
PepsiCo lowered its 2026 profit-growth outlook after reporting third-quarter results on October 8, with international operations offsetting weaker execution in North America. The company now expects core earnings per share to grow 2.5% to 3.5% for the year, according to the PepsiCo third-quarter earnings release carried by MarketScreener.
The revised outlook puts margin resilience at the center of the investment case. PepsiCo said third-quarter net revenue rose 5.6% to USD 25.274 billion, while organic revenue increased 3.1%. Core EPS reached USD 2.34, up 2% from the prior-year quarter, and core operating profit increased 3% to USD 4.277 billion. The core operating margin nevertheless contracted by 35 basis points to 16.9%.
North America remains the key test
Management pointed to strong international performance and said it would act with urgency to improve North American results. Planned measures include higher spending on innovation, brand building and sharper marketplace execution by channel. PepsiCo also said additional structural cost reductions would be identified and implemented in the coming months to help finance those investments and offset rising input costs.
The regional picture was mixed. North American convenient foods improved sequentially, helped by savory-snack volume growth and better volume market share, although lower effective net pricing weighed on revenue. International businesses delivered strong revenue growth, supported by organic volume gains in Asia Pacific Foods, the International Beverages Franchise and Latin America Foods.
PepsiCo's reported earnings benefited from several items that investors need to separate from underlying trends. Core operating profit included a favorable 4-percentage-point impact from tariff refunds, while the company's core measures exclude selected restructuring, acquisition, pension and commodity mark-to-market effects. That makes the lower guidance particularly relevant for assessing the operating trajectory rather than a single quarter's reported result.
Stock trades above prior Xetra close
PepsiCo stock traded at 122.46 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 13:38 CET on Friday, October 30, 2.80% above the Xetra close of Thursday, October 29. The move places the shares above the prior Xetra session while the market weighs the trade-off between near-term margin pressure and the potential payoff from renewed North American investment. The real-time quote of PepsiCo stock remains the key reference for the latest European trading indication.
