Nestle stock: Russia exit reshapes 2026 reporting, outlook held

Nestle stock faces a smaller reporting perimeter after Russia left consolidation at the end of September. Management kept its 2026 targets.

What investors should watch

  • Nestlé kept its 2026 organic-growth target at 3% to 4% after a volume-led third quarter.
  • Russia's deconsolidation will reduce the reporting perimeter and weigh on reported sales, underlying operating profit and free cash flow from the fourth quarter.
  • Management expects free cash flow above CHF 9 billion and plans to provide more 2027 margin detail with the full-year results.

Nestlé maintained its 2026 outlook after reporting stronger volume momentum in the third quarter, while the loss of control over its Russian operations will change the group's reported figures from the fourth quarter. The company presented the update on Thursday, October 22, 2026, in its third-quarter and nine-month sales release and investor call.

Organic growth reached 4.0% in the quarter, with real internal growth of 2.8% and pricing of 1.1%. Chief Executive Officer Philipp Navratil said the performance reflected improving execution across the business, while Chief Financial Officer Anna Manz said the quarter marked another period of volume-led growth. Management also said reported sales grew 5.2% in the quarter.

Russia changes the reporting perimeter

Nestlé said its Russian operations were placed under temporary external management after a presidential decree issued in September. Because the group no longer controls management of the business, it stopped consolidating the operations at the end of September. The company remains the legal owner of the assets.

According to Nestlé's October 22 release and investor call, the change has no effect on organic growth, real internal growth or pricing because Russia has been excluded from organic growth since 2022. It will, however, affect reported sales, underlying trading operating profit and free cash flow from the fourth quarter. Nestlé expects group net debt to be around CHF 900 million higher at the end of 2026 as a result.

Management described the full-year effect as limited, but said Russia will become a slight headwind in 2027 because three quarters of the annual impact will then be reflected in the comparison. More detail on the Russian balance sheet is expected with the full-year results.

Volume growth supports the outlook

Nestlé kept its full-year organic-growth target at 3% to 4%, with real internal growth expected to accelerate from 2025. The underlying trading operating profit margin is still expected to improve from the prior year, while second-half margin performance should be broadly similar to the first half, excluding any tariff refunds. Free cash flow remains targeted above CHF 9 billion.

The company attributed recent progress to focused investment in growth platforms and tighter execution in its core businesses. Emerging markets continued to perform strongly, while North American organic growth accelerated to 2.6% and real internal growth recovered to 1.8% in the third quarter. Nestlé also reported continued improvement in pet care and progress in infant nutrition, although management said execution in parts of nutrition still needs work.

For 2027, management expects a more inflationary environment and indicated that further pricing may be needed. The stated approach is to raise prices where the consumer proposition supports penetration, while using cost savings, innovation and stronger distribution to protect volume growth. The company plans to give fuller margin guidance in February 2027 when it publishes its full-year results.
