Nestle stock faces Russia balance-sheet impact as outlook holds

- Third-quarter organic growth reached 4.0 percent, led by stronger real internal growth across Nestle's businesses.
- Nestle kept its 2026 organic-growth target at 3 to 4 percent and expects free cash flow above CHF 9 billion.
- The loss of control over its Russian operations changes reported net debt and removes the business from group consolidation.
Nestle strengthened its operating momentum in the third quarter of 2026 while keeping its full-year outlook unchanged. In its sales release published on October 22, the company reported 4.0 percent organic growth, with real internal growth of 2.8 percent and pricing of 1.1 percent. The figures point to stronger volume-led performance, although the group is also adjusting to the loss of control over its Russian operations.
According to Nestle's third-quarter and nine-month sales release, group sales reached CHF 22.756 billion in the quarter, compared with CHF 21.641 billion a year earlier. Real internal growth was positive across all zones and globally managed businesses. Emerging markets delivered 6.8 percent organic growth, while developed markets grew 2.2 percent.
Volumes become the main growth driver
Petcare and Food and Snacks led the product categories. Petcare generated 5.3 percent organic growth, supported by 4.3 percent real internal growth and continued momentum in cat food. Food and Snacks grew organically by 5.0 percent. Coffee recorded 3.4 percent growth, while Nutrition rose only 0.3 percent as weaker performance in some categories offset strength in medical nutrition.
Growth was particularly strong in Asia, Oceania and Africa, where organic growth reached 6.4 percent and real internal growth rose to 5.0 percent. In the Americas, organic growth was 3.3 percent. Europe delivered 1.2 percent organic growth, with real internal growth recovering from the previous quarter despite competitive pressure and softer pricing.
Russia changes the balance sheet
Nestle said its Russian business was no longer consolidated from the end of September 2026 after the operations were placed under temporary external administration. The group remains the legal owner of the assets but said it no longer controls their management. Russia had contributed about 2 percent of group sales and 3 to 4 percent of underlying trading operating profit and free cash flow on an annualized basis.
The deconsolidation removed CHF 1.6 billion of net assets from the balance sheet and created a non-cash charge of CHF 1.4 billion for cumulative currency translation adjustments. Nestle expects the change to increase group net debt by CHF 0.9 billion at year-end. The company said the move had no impact on third-quarter or nine-month sales and only a limited effect on underlying 2026 results.
Guidance remains unchanged
Nestle continues to target organic growth of 3 to 4 percent in 2026. Management also expects its underlying trading operating profit margin to improve from 2025 and free cash flow to exceed CHF 9 billion. The company is focusing investment on higher-growth platforms and has agreed to sell its mainstream vitamins, minerals and supplements business to Yellow Wood Partners for USD 1.0 billion, subject to regulatory approval and expected to close in the first half of 2027.
