Mercedes-Benz is reshaping its European charging strategy after 47 Mercedes-Benz charging hubs became part of Electra's network on November 1. EV Infrastructure News reported the transfer on November 5 and said the European network assets were valued at around 100 million euros in Mercedes-Benz's third-quarter report.
Electra expands the European platform
The hubs will gradually be rebranded by Electra, while Mercedes-Benz customers can continue accessing the expanded network through MB.CHARGE Public. A separate Electra registration is required for reservations, charging and billing, according to EV Infrastructure News.
The transaction gives Electra a larger operating base and shifts Mercedes-Benz away from running its own public charging network in Europe. Electra aims to operate 2,200 charging stations and 15,000 high-speed charging points by 2030. The company also operates around 800 fast-charging locations across mainland Europe and offers charging at up to 600 kilowatts at selected sites.
Mercedes-Benz remains active in the United States, where its high-power charging operation covers around 780 charging points across 25 states. The group also provides access to a broader US network through partners including IONNA, Electrify America, EVgo and ChargePoint.
