Alliant Energy reported stronger third-quarter results on October 29, 2026, and issued its first 2027 earnings outlook. The utility's release, carried by Business Wire, showed GAAP earnings per share of USD 1.52 for the three months ended September 30, compared with USD 1.09 a year earlier.
Higher earnings, tighter 2026 range
For the first nine months, GAAP EPS increased to USD 3.04 from USD 2.59. Ongoing EPS, which excludes specified state income tax apportionment effects, reached USD 2.99, up from USD 2.62. Management narrowed its 2026 ongoing EPS guidance to USD 3.41 to USD 3.46 per share from the prior range of USD 3.36 to USD 3.46.
The quarterly performance benefited from higher revenue requirements at Interstate Power and Light and Wisconsin Power and Light, investments in generation and energy storage, higher equity income and stronger retail electric sales. Higher labor, maintenance, financing and depreciation costs partly offset those gains. The company said the favorable income-tax timing effects will reverse by year-end.
Data centers lift investment needs
Alliant Energy issued 2027 ongoing EPS guidance of USD 3.63 to USD 3.73 per share. The midpoint represents 8% growth over the midpoint of the original 2026 guidance. The company also set a 2027 annual common-stock dividend target of USD 2.25 per share, subject to board declarations, versus a current annual target of USD 2.14.
Capital spending planned for 2027 through 2030 increased to USD 15.9 billion. The company said its utilities have 3.4 gigawatts of contracted data-center demand and expects peak demand to rise by approximately 60% by 2031. The enlarged investment plan raises the importance of regulatory execution, financing access and the timing of new load additions for future earnings growth.
