Bank Pekao SA (Bank Polska Kasa Opieki S.A. )

The reconstruction of the Bank in Poland started in April 1945 with the revival of the Head Office.A new chapter in the Bank's history was started with the reform of the Polish banking system in 1989. Commercial activities were taken away from the Central Bank. New banking law and the law on Central Bank were passed by the Polish parliament. Thanks to this reform banks no longer had to be highly specialised. The reforms allowed for creation of new banks and thus allowed competition in the banking sector.
On 1 January 1999, the four banks were merged and currently act as one universal bank under the name of Bank Pekao SA.
