Fernando Botero. L’incanto del Mito is running at the Valley of the Temples (Valle dei Templi) in Agrigento from 23 July to 31 October 2026. The exhibition brings paintings, drawings, works on paper and monumental bronze sculptures into one of Sicily’s major archaeological sites.
Botero exhibition continues at the Valley of the Temples until 31 October
The exhibition is split between Villa Aurea and outdoor areas of the Archaeological and Landscape Park of the Valley of the Temples. Villa Aurea presents works from the Fernando Botero Zea Collection, while the park displays monumental sculptures within the archaeological landscape.
The exhibition is curated by Fernando Botero Quintana and art critic Nicola Barbatelli. It is promoted by Sicily’s Department of Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity, created by the Archaeological and Landscape Park of the Valley of the Temples, and produced by Renaissance Exhibitions. The operator’s page confirms the 23 July to 31 October dates and the Agrigento venue.
Valley of the Temples places modern sculpture beside ancient temples
The exhibition’s placement gives the date-specific programme a direct link to the site: paintings and works on paper are shown at Villa Aurea, while sculpture is encountered among the remains of ancient Akragas. Botero’s focus on volume and the human figure therefore sits alongside Doric architecture and the surviving archaeological landscape.
The park preserves the remains of Akragas, founded by Greek colonists in 580 BC. Its temples and other remains occupy a landscape that includes the Temple of Concordia, the Temple of Juno, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, sanctuaries, necropolises and underground aqueducts.
The site was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997. The regional archaeological authority records that the park was established by regional law in 2000 and preserves the monumental heritage of the ancient Greek colony, which became Agrigentum after the Roman conquest in 210 BC. Its official history of the archaeological area places the modern exhibition in a landscape shaped over more than two millennia.
