A new Day of the Dead light installation called The Path will run along Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City from 23 October to 8 November 2026. The route will link the Angel of Independence with the Puerta de los Leones at Chapultepec. Mexico’s capital has included the programme in its official 2026 visitor guide.
The Path brings Day of the Dead lights to Reforma
The installation will use light and colour to create a public route connected with the symbolic world of Day of the Dead. The official programme lists catrinas, xoloitzcuintles, altars, papel picado and cempasúchil flowers among its elements.
The dates and route appear in the official 2026 programme for Mexico City. It places the installation on the stretch between the Angel of Independence and the Puerta de los Leones, the entrance to Chapultepec. No access hours are stated in that programme.
An 1860s boulevard becomes the installation route
The avenue was designed in the 1860s after Maximilian of Habsburg commissioned a grand connection between Chapultepec Castle and the entrance to the historic centre. It was originally called Paseo de la Emperatriz before the name changed during the Republic.
Today, the corridor combines tree-lined public space, modern towers and historic roundabouts. The Angel of Independence, the Diana the Huntress fountain and the Cuauhtémoc statue are among the monuments identified by the city’s avenue history page. The Path therefore places a contemporary light route between monuments that reflect different periods of Mexico City’s development.
Other Reforma events continue through early November
The same official programme lists several further activities on or near the avenue. A Cempasúchil Flower Festival runs from 18 October to 1 November between the Angel of Independence and the Ahuehuete, with 140 floriculturists and agroecological producers.
A night bike ride follows on 24 October, while the Mega Procession of the Catrinas is scheduled for 25 October. The Great Day of the Dead Parade will travel from the Diana Cazadora fountain to the Zócalo on 31 October, with marching bands, dancers, giant puppets and floats.
