A special programme at Iguazu Falls (Cataratas do Iguaçu) in Foz do Iguacu will run from 31 October to 2 November 2026 for Brazil's Finados holiday. The programme combines live music with access to selected trails while high water keeps several attractions closed.
Finados programme brings music and restricted trails to the falls
The programme is taking place at Iguaçu National Park, the Brazilian side of the waterfall system. The park's tourism concessionaire, Urbia+Cataratas, is organising visitor facilities during the three-day period, with music scheduled at the Visitor Centre and Espaço Porto Canoas, as reported by the published holiday programme.
High water is shaping the visit as much as the holiday schedule. The main Passarela das Cataratas, the São João Circuit, Espaço Usina and the Poço Preto and Bananeiras paths are temporarily closed, while the Trilha das Cataratas, Trilha da Canafístula and Ciclovia das Cataratas remain available.
The operator says the main walkway will reopen only when the Iguaçu River's flow is falling and conditions are safe. That makes the special programme a visit to the Brazilian park with a defined calendar but without access to every viewpoint or route.
High water links the holiday programme to a World Heritage site
The waterfall system crosses the border between Brazil and Argentina, with the Brazilian national park beside its Argentine counterpart. UNESCO describes Iguaçu National Park as a World Heritage property in Paraná covering 169,695.88 hectares and managed by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation.
The falls extend over some 2,700 metres, with vertical drops of up to 80 metres, according to UNESCO's description of Iguaçu National Park. The holiday programme therefore places live music and trail access within a protected landscape whose defining feature is the river's changing force.
The park was legally established in 1939 and later expanded in 1944 and 1981. Its rainforest and waterfalls form part of a wider protected area linked to rare and endangered species, including the giant otter and giant anteater.
Visiting Iguazu Falls: what travellers from Western Europe should know
- The Finados programme runs from 31 October to 2 November 2026 at Iguaçu National Park, with music at the Visitor Centre and Espaço Porto Canoas.
- The Trilha das Cataratas, Trilha da Canafístula and Ciclovia das Cataratas are the confirmed visitor options; the Passarela das Cataratas and four other attractions are closed because of high water.
- The Brazilian park is in Paraná, beside Foz do Iguacu and across the river from the Argentine national park. UNESCO identifies the waterfall system as a border landscape between Brazil and Argentina.
- The terrain includes forest trails, exposed viewpoints and spray near the falls. The main walkway's reopening depends on river conditions and a safety assessment.
- Entry requirements depend on your nationality; UK travellers can check the FCDO travel advice at gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice, Irish travellers the Department of Foreign Affairs at ireland.ie.
