The Smashing Pumpkins announced a 30th-anniversary vinyl reissue of The Aeroplane Flies High on 2 October 2026. The Aeroplane Flies High returns to vinyl on 18 December
UMe will issue the reworked collection on 18 December 2026, according to the October announcement. The announcement describes a standard five-LP set and a limited-edition colour vinyl version.
Blabbermouth also lists the two vinyl editions and identifies UMe as the label. The new vinyl issue is the collection’s first in more than a decade, while the announced date fixes its arrival for 18 December 2026.
The Smashing Pumpkins connect the reissue to their catalogue
The contents draw from five singles associated with Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness: Bullet With Butterfly Wings, 1979, Zero, Tonight, Tonight and Thirty-Three. The set also contains B-sides, rarities and covers of songs by The Cars, Blondie and The Cure.
That combination makes The Aeroplane Flies High both a song-linked companion to Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and a separate collection of additional material. Other recent Pumpkins releases named alongside the reissue include Cyr, Atum: A Rock Opera In Three Acts and Aghori Mhori Mei.
The Rats In A Cage tour runs alongside the anniversary set
The 2 October 2026 announcement also places the reissue alongside The Rats In A Cage Tour, which runs through November. The live programme uses two sets: one focused on Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, and another spanning nearly four decades of the band’s catalogue.
Live Nation lists the next date as 11 October 2026 at Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin, and a 12 November 2026 show at Kia Forum in Inglewood, California. Those dates place the touring programme alongside the vinyl edition due on 18 December 2026.
