Pet Shop Boys released A man from the future via Parlophone Records on 9 October 2026. The album turns the life and death of Alan Turing into 8 chapters, combining electronic and orchestral music with spoken narration. It is available in vinyl, CD and digital editions.
A man from the future arrived in three formats
Created with Alan Turing biographer Andrew Hodges, the album follows eight significant chapters in the mathematician and cryptanalyst’s life and death. Pet Shop Boys’ official release notice names the Manchester Camerata Octet as performers, with narration by Juliet Stevenson.
Sven Helbig arranged the strings and produced the new version with Pet Shop Boys, while Maarten Vos contributed additional production, programming and synthesisers. The piece was revised and updated after its first performance at the BBC Proms. An independent German account also identifies 9 October 2026 as its release day and places Turing at the centre of the concept.
Pet Shop Boys’ electronic language frames the Turing project
Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe are the two members of the English synth-pop act. A BBC profile describes Tennant as frontman and Lowe as the band’s keyboard player, roles that frame the contrast between voice, machines and orchestral colour in the new project.
That combination gives the Turing work a different shape from a conventional singer-songwriter biography. Spoken passages, electronic sections and orchestral writing share its 8-chapter structure, while Hodges’ involvement connects the music to Turing’s life and work. Parlophone Records is credited for the release, which appears in physical and digital formats.
Eight chapters give the Turing work its musical structure
The track list moves through titles including Natural wonders every child should know, He dreamed of machines, The Enigma and The trial, before reaching A man from the future. Juliet Stevenson’s narration and the Manchester Camerata Octet add spoken and orchestral elements to Pet Shop Boys’ electronic framework, while Helbig’s string arrangements broaden the palette.
