Neil Young’s Second Song reaches physical shelves on 30 October
SPIN’s release details put the physical editions on 30 October 2026 through Reprise. The Warner Records page also lists the album among Neil Young press releases.
The date applies to the physical editions of a project that also exists in digital and high-resolution audio forms. Vinyl and CD therefore sit alongside the electronic versions in the release plan, giving the album several listening formats without changing its seven-song sequence.
Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts shape a seven-song album
The record brings together five previously unreleased songs and two new versions of Casting Me Away From You and I’ll Love You Forever. That combination connects newly completed Chrome Hearts material with compositions drawn from Young’s early songwriting.
NPR describes the album as Young’s 50th studio record. Its rock setting is shaped by the semi-acoustic approach, while the collaboration gives the release a clear band identity rather than presenting it as a solo collection.
Second Song connects new recordings with older writing
The Chrome Hearts line-up on the record includes drummer Anthony LoGerfo, bassist Corey McCormick, guitarist Micah Nelson and keyboard player Spooner Oldham. Young and Niko Bolas produced the album with Lou Adler, and the sessions took place at Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La Studios in Malibu.
The production also follows two parallel approaches to sound. The group captured analogue and high-resolution digital masters, while the finished album was engineered and mixed by John Hanlon. The October edition thus links a contemporary studio band with material reaching back to Young’s earliest writing.
