Joy Division’s Rock Hall ceremony has a fixed date
The 2026 ceremony will be taped on 14 November at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, according to the Hall’s induction announcement. The same announcement lists Joy Division/New Order among the Performer inductees for the ceremony.
The event gives Joy Division a formal place in the Hall through the combined history of the band and New Order. The listing links the original post-punk group with the later project formed by its surviving members.
What the induction says about Joy Division’s history
The Hall describes Joy Division and New Order as post-punk pioneers whose music moved from punk’s raw sound towards electronic dance-floor innovation. It places their story in the late-1970s Manchester scene and names Ian Curtis, Peter Hook, Stephen Morris and Bernard Sumner among the inductees.
For the band’s foundations, the Official Charts biography identifies Salford, Manchester, as the origin and 1976 as the formation year. It also records the original line-up and the route from Joy Division to New Order after Curtis’s death. The debut album Unknown Pleasures is part of the same recorded history.
Joy Division and New Order share a Hall of Fame entry
The joint presentation recognises both stages of the musicians’ work rather than treating Joy Division as an active touring act. The Hall’s description connects the band’s post-punk writing and performance with New Order’s later synthesiser-led direction.
The ceremony’s programme includes other 2026 Performer inductees, while Joy Division/New Order are the act’s designated entry in that category. Official British chart listings also continue to carry Joy Division releases, including the live collection Eternal.
