The set presents the first Berkeley Community Theater show in its original running order.
Magic Boy brings Berkeley’s first show to release day
Experience Hendrix, L.L.C. and Legacy Recordings are issuing the live album in three formats: 2LP vinyl, CD and digital. The official release announcement names Janie Hendrix, Eddie Kramer and John McDermott as producers.
Album details describe Eddie Kramer’s remix as drawn from the original multitrack tapes. The independent album details also give 16 October 2026 as the release date.
Jimi Hendrix’s Berkeley line-up anchors Magic Boy
The official line-up is Hendrix on guitar and vocals, Mitch Mitchell on drums and Billy Cox on bass. That combination gives the album a clearly defined Experience-era identity rather than an unnamed archive release.
Jimi Hendrix’s official biography describes the Experience as the London-formed trio that brought his guitar-led sound to a wider audience. The Berkeley line-up differs from that early formation through Cox’s bass role, a change stated on the release page.
Eleven tracks map the set from Fire to Voodoo Child
The 11-track sequence begins with Fire, Johnny B. Goode and Hear My Train A Comin’. It then includes Machine Gun, Freedom, Red House, Message To Love, Ezy Ryder, Star Spangled Banner, Purple Haze and Voodoo Child (Slight Return).
The running order connects familiar pieces such as Purple Haze and Fire with material that was still developing in performance, including Freedom and Ezy Ryder. It also includes Message To Love and Machine Gun, linking the Berkeley set to Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys repertoire.
