A David Bowie Stage event for Berlin was announced on 27 October 2026, with an immersive concert production built around previously unseen footage from his Isolar II performances. The world premiere is scheduled for 14 February 2027 at Uber Arena Berlin as part of the 77th Berlin Film Festival.
David Bowie Stage brings archival concert footage to Berlin
Wonderworld is presenting the project in collaboration with the David Bowie Estate and filmmaker Brett Morgen. The official Stage announcement describes a production assembled from raw, unseen 35mm film, shown across multiple screens with integrated lighting and immersive sound.
The format is designed for arenas and combines cinema with the scale and atmosphere of a live concert. That approach places an archival performance at the centre of a contemporary audiovisual production rather than a conventional cinema screening.
David Bowie Stage turns archive material into live scale
Morgen found the original footage while working on Moonage Daydream, then spent years reconfiguring, editing, colour grading and hand-painting the material. Stage uses transparent LED screens and a 7.1 surround-sound setup to create the impression that Bowie and his band occupy the arena stage.
Lighting designer Patrick Woodroffe and sound engineer Paul Massey are part of the creative team named for the Berlin presentation. The production is intended for auditoriums and venues with capacities starting at 5,000, according to the announcement.
Stage connects Berlin’s Bowie history with a new arena format
Berlin is not an incidental setting: the official Bowie biography describes the city as a major part of his artistic history. Stage now carries that history into an arena format, using recovered performance material to place Bowie’s recorded presence at the centre of a live-scale setting.
The Berlinale announcement frames the event as an immersive concert experience, while Uber Arena supplies the scale of a rock venue. The festival setting also connects Morgen’s film work with a presentation built around sound, light and the physical dimensions of an arena.
