Amphenol revenue up 58%, but stock falls 21% from peak. €1.1B bond issue funds AI growth. Analysts see 40-50% upside; China risk and overbought RSI are headwinds.

The connector specialist Amphenol is posting eye-popping numbers — revenue up 58%, adjusted earnings per share jumping 68%, and orders hitting an all-time high of $9.4 billion — yet its share price has been sliding. The stock currently trades around €108 to €109, roughly 21% below its 52-week peak set in January and about 13% lower over the past month. The drop has even taken it below the widely watched 50-day moving average, signalling that market sentiment has turned cautious despite the operational fireworks.

Management, however, is not letting the share-price weakness distract from its growth agenda. This week Amphenol placed senior euro-denominated bonds worth a total of €1.1 billion, split into two tranches: €600 million due in 2029 carrying a coupon of 3.375%, and €500 million maturing in 2034 at 3.875%. The net proceeds will be used to pay down short-term borrowings, including commercial paper and a near-term loan, thereby extending the company’s debt maturity profile and giving it more financial firepower for future investments.

The proceeds come at a time when demand for high-speed and power connectors tied to artificial-intelligence infrastructure is surging. Amphenol’s IT and data-communications segment, which now accounts for nearly half of total company revenue, saw organic growth of 81% in the first quarter. Data-center-related sales nearly doubled year over year, according to the secondary report.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Amphenol?

Morningstar, for its part, sees plenty of upside. The research firm lifted its fair-value estimate for Amphenol by $20 to $190 per share after the first-quarter results, calling the company a “wide-moat” business. Morningstar believes switching costs and intangible assets will keep returns on capital above average for the next two decades. The implied forward price-to-earnings ratio of 37 for 2026 — based on a projected annual growth rate of 19% through 2030 — is considered reasonable in that context, with the house forecasting a revenue increase of more than 45% for 2026 alone.

Other analysts are equally bullish. Truist has a $200 target on the stock, while Seaport Research and Seaport Global both set theirs at $215. Goldman Sachs, Jefferies, and Rothschild & Co Redburn each echo the constructive view, and the consensus sits around $181 to $182. The gap between these price targets and the current share price ranges from roughly 40% to more than 50%, depending on the source.

Yet the stock remains under pressure. The relative strength index (RSI) has climbed to 73, a technically overbought reading, which could fuel short-term headwinds. More fundamentally, Amphenol faces a significant risk from its China exposure — the company generates nearly a third of its revenue in the region, and a large tax-provision requirement for Chinese matters is weighing on the balance sheet. Trade tensions between Washington and Beijing remain a wild card that could dent sales growth.

Management has guided for second-quarter revenue of $8.15 billion, a 44% year-over-year increase, and has declared a dividend of $0.25 per share for the second quarter. The next test comes on July 22, when Amphenol reports its second-quarter results and provides greater detail on margins and the trajectory of the data-center boom. Until then, the stock’s disconnect from its blistering fundamentals may persist, with investors weighing the promise of AI-driven demand against the geopolitical uncertainties embedded in the company’s global footprint.
