UN expert on water and sanitation to visit Guinea Bissau

GENEVA, 07 March 2025 / PRN Africa / -- The UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights to safe drinking water and sanitation, Pedro Arrojo-Agudo, will visit Guinea Bissau from 10 to 19 March 2025.

The Special Rapporteur will visit the capital, Bissau, as well as the regions of Bafatá, Gabú, Tombali, Oio, and Cacheu. During the visit, he will meet with representatives from national and regional governments, civil society organisations, the international community, as well as academics and individuals. He will also visit specific sites identified as relevant for assessing the state of water and sanitation in the country.

Arrojo-Agudo will examine key issues related to his mandate, including access to water and sanitation services and the quality of water for drinking and domestic use, with emphasis on rural areas and groups such as youth, children, and women. Additionally, he will analyse how climate change is impacting access to water in the country.

The expert will share his preliminary findings at a press conference on Wednesday 19 March at 12.00 pm at Ceiba Hotel, VC55+MJ7, Avenida Francisco Mendes, Bissau.
