Xiaomi's sub-brand Redmi is making a decisive play for the gaming smartphone market. On April 21, it will unveil the Redmi K90 Max, its first device built specifically for gamers, challenging incumbents like ASUS ROG and iQOO. The launch is part of a broader product offensive that includes new laptops, tablets, and earbuds, representing a strategic shift for Redmi from a pure budget leader towards higher-margin niche segments.

The technical specifications of the K90 Max are its primary selling point. It features a 6.83-inch E-Sports display with a 165Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 3,500 nits. Powering the device is MediaTek's top-tier Dimensity 9500 chipset. A standout feature is its integrated cooling fan, a hardware addition previously reserved for niche gaming phones. Xiaomi claims this system can lower device temperature by up to 10 degrees Celsius in about 100 seconds.

The phone also boasts an unusually large 8,550 mAh battery, one of the biggest in its class, paired with 100-watt wired charging. Over 40 games are optimized to run at up to 165 frames per second on the device. Xiaomi has not yet announced a price, but market expectations suggest it will be positioned below the K90 Pro Max, which currently starts around 4,199 Chinese Yuan.

This gaming push coincides with a difficult period for Xiaomi's stock. The shares currently trade at 3.51 euros, a staggering 48% below their 52-week high of 6.69 euros. Since the start of the year, the stock is down nearly 22%. Despite a recent technical rebound that has pushed its Relative Strength Index (RSI) to an overbought level of 76.7, the overall trend remains negative, with all major moving averages pointing downward.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Xiaomi?

Alongside the smartphone, Redmi will introduce the Redmi Book Pro 2026 laptop series in 14-inch and 16-inch models. These devices will be among the first to utilize Intel's new Panther Lake architecture, specifically the Core Ultra X7 358H processor, built on an 18A process node. The chips offer 16 cores and up to 180 TOPS of AI performance. In a move to differentiate from the premium Xiaomi Book Pro line, these Redmi laptops will use LCD panels instead of OLED. The 14-inch model is touted to achieve up to 37 hours of battery life during local video playback, with prices expected to undercut the 7,999 Yuan mark of its more expensive sibling.

The event will also showcase the Redmi K Pad 2, powered by the Dimensity 9500 chip, a more affordable Redmi Pad 2 SE, and the Redmi Buds 8 with 50 dB of active noise cancellation.

Market reaction to this flurry of announcements is likely to hinge on final pricing, which remains undisclosed for key products. Analysts note that product launches alone are rarely enough to reverse a stock's fortunes, especially one carrying a 22% year-to-date loss. Investor focus is increasingly shifting to Xiaomi's other ventures. The company has reported strong initial demand for its SU7 electric car, securing 15,000 firm orders within 34 minutes of its March launch, with a target of 550,000 vehicle deliveries for 2026. CEO Lei Jun has also outlined ambitions to invest more heavily in proprietary chipsets, an in-house operating system, and AI language models in 2026.

Xiaomi at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

The broader question is whether this push into gaming and premium-adjacent hardware can improve margins enough to offset broader market pressures. For now, the product blitz highlights a company aggressively repositioning its brands, even as its shares search for a sustainable floor.
