VINCORION's Defense Tech Enters Real-World Trials as Valuation Gap Persists

VINCORION begins real-world testing for its EU defense energy project, a key step for NATO contracts. Strong 2025 results and a €1.1B backlog contrast with a modest P/E ratio.

The defense supplier VINCORION is moving its latest technology from the lab to the field. A key milestone has been reached with the SENTINEL project, an EU defense initiative, now entering its practical testing phase. This real-world validation could prove crucial for securing future NATO contracts, providing a tangible counterpoint to the stock's surprisingly modest market valuation since its March 2026 IPO.

Field tests for the autonomous energy systems are beginning at the University of the Bundeswehr in Munich. The 50-kilowatt modules, designed for extreme conditions, combine solar power with fuel cells to supply mobile field camps. Further international deployments in the Netherlands and on Aruba are scheduled to follow. As the coordinator for 42 partners in this €39.9 million project, VINCORION bears overall responsibility for the energy storage component, aiming to reduce military reliance on vulnerable diesel supply lines.

Financially, the company enters this phase from a position of strength, yet trades at a notable discount to its peers. For the full year 2025, revenue grew 18% to €240.3 million. Operating profit surged 64% to €33.7 million, while net profit doubled to €19.4 million. An order backlog of €1.1 billion provides multi-year visibility. Despite a three-year average annual sales growth rate of 22%, the stock's price-to-earnings ratio sits at approximately 46. This looks conservative next to rivals like RENK (53), HENSOLDT (95), and Rheinmetall, which trades at a multiple well over 100.

A significant NATO contract already underpins near-term growth. The alliance's procurement agency, NSPA, awarded VINCORION a framework deal to modernize power supply systems for the PATRIOT air defense system. The contract runs through 2030 and covers five European nations, with an initial volume of €60 million. The new hybrid solutions are expected to cut fuel consumption by nearly half.

Notably, VINCORION's IPO was not a capital-raising exercise. The listing served solely as an exit for majority shareholder STAR Capital and opened the door for US anchor investors. All planned expansion is to be funded internally, backed by an operating cash flow of €38 million. The lucrative aftermarket business for maintenance and spare parts, contributing 55% of total revenue, provides a steady stream of high-margin earnings to support this self-financed model.

Investor attention now turns to two imminent events. On April 23, the greenshoe option for STAR Capital expires. If this reduces the shareholder's voting rights below 50%, the free float would increase, potentially making the stock more attractive to institutional buyers, though it may introduce near-term selling pressure.

The first major operational test comes in May with the release of the inaugural quarterly report as a public company. This report will be scrutinized for evidence that the company's 2026 revenue forecast of up to €320 million remains on track. A lock-up period for STAR Capital's direct 47.5% stake provides relative stability in the shareholder structure until autumn 2026.
