This massive investment coincides with reports that Rockstar Games is entering the final stages of testing, keeping the confirmed November 2026 release date firmly in sight.

A Global Testing Push Nears Completion

Indications that the game is approaching its final polish phase are emerging from Rockstar's global studios. Simultaneous quality assurance (QA) testing is reportedly underway at Rockstar North in Edinburgh and at the company's studio in Bangalore. The Edinburgh team is said to be focusing on technical performance, while the Bangalore operation handles functionality checks. Notably, job postings for QA positions in Bangalore are slated to be filled starting April 18. Such hiring typically occurs when a game is largely feature-complete and entering its final bug-fixing and optimization stage.

The eye-watering cost projections originate from an analysis of publicly available UK corporate filings for Rockstar North. These documents reveal that the Edinburgh studio alone has spent over $2.1 billion on employee salaries since 2019. One market researcher, extrapolating from the data, estimates the total budget for GTA 6 to be between £2.7 and £3.7 billion. To provide context, this sum would dwarf the reported $536 million production cost of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

It is important to note that the corporate filings cover Rockstar Games' overall operations and are not exclusively tied to GTA 6. Furthermore, the game's lengthy development cycle, which began in 2018 with full production kicking off in 2020, helps explain the accumulation of such significant costs. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has suggested a retail price point of $70 to $80 for the title.
