T-Mobile US Charts Aggressive Growth Path with AI and Network Expansion

At the recent Morgan Stanley TMT Conference, T-Mobile US unveiled a detailed multi-year strategy aimed at solidifying its market leadership. The company's plan hinges on leveraging technological innovation and artificial intelligence to drive operational efficiency, backed by substantial infrastructure investment to widen its competitive moat.
Financial Targets and Capital Return
The carrier has set ambitious financial benchmarks for the next two years. Management aims to grow service revenue at four times the rate of its primary industry rivals, while expanding EBITDA at double their pace. This translates to a targeted increase in service revenue of approximately $10 billion over the period, with an estimated $7 billion of that flowing directly to EBITDA.
To enhance shareholder returns, T-Mobile US announced a share repurchase authorization of up to $5 billion, scheduled for the first quarter of 2026. Concurrently, the company will maintain a leverage target of 2.5x EBITDA, a discipline intended to preserve balance sheet strength amidst its growth initiatives.
Operational Efficiency and Next-Gen Technology
A core component of the strategy is the deep integration of AI and digital processes. T-Mobile US anticipates these efforts will yield roughly $3 billion in efficiency gains and cost savings by 2027. This shift is already evident in customer interactions: 73% of device upgrades are now handled through the company's app, with nearly 40% of those transactions completed entirely without human assistance.
Technologically, the company is looking beyond current 5G standards. Through a deepened collaboration with Qualcomm, T-Mobile is laying the groundwork for 6G technology, targeting a commercial launch as early as 2029. Additional tests with portable AI network software, conducted in partnership with Ericsson and Nvidia, are underway to boost infrastructure flexibility.

Broadband Market Ambitions
Beyond its core wireless business, T-Mobile US is accelerating its push into the broadband sector. The company's goal is to reach a total of 18 to 19 million broadband customers by 2030, with 15 million of those coming from Fixed Wireless Access. This expansion is being supported by partnerships, including one with Starlink, designed to eliminate coverage gaps and ensure network reliability even in remote areas.
The market has responded positively to management's confident outlook. Over the past 30 days, the equity has advanced approximately 12.8%. With a recent closing price of €188.76, the shares are approaching their 200-day average of €189.60, recovering from periods of pressure experienced last year.
The strategic roadmap for the coming two years is now set. By focusing on broadband growth and AI-driven efficiency, T-Mobile US intends to cement its dominant market position. For investors, the execution of the announced $5 billion buyback program in Q1 2026 will be a key near-term focus.
