Sudden CFO Departure Adds to Turbulence at ABO WIND
16.03.2026 - 06:47:13 | boerse-global.deThe renewable energy developer ABO WIND AG finds itself navigating its most severe financial crisis without its finance chief. Alexander Reinicke has left the Wiesbaden-based company with immediate effect, a surprising move that comes just days after bondholders approved a crucial restructuring plan.
Leadership Shift Amid Critical Restructuring
The company's general partners announced the immediate departure last Thursday without providing specific reasons. Reinicke, who had served on the executive board since 2022 and recently oversaw the firm's conversion to a KGaA (partnership limited by shares), will have his duties assumed on an interim basis by the existing management team.
The timing is notable. The exit follows closely on the heels of a vital bondholder vote, where 99% of creditors approved measures essential for the company's rehabilitation. They agreed to suspend a key contractual clause until the end of 2026, a move that enables ABO WIND to once again provide collateral necessary for participating in new tariff auctions.
A Perfect Storm of Financial Pressures
This newly secured financial flexibility is urgently needed. For the recently concluded 2025 fiscal year, the company anticipates a loss of approximately €170 million on total revenue of €230 million. This marks the first annual loss in ABO WIND's nearly 30-year history.
The financial distress stems from a combination of factors. Drastically reduced feed-in tariffs following oversubscribed wind power auctions in Germany forced asset write-downs of €35 million. These challenges were compounded by significant delays in several European international projects. The cumulative impact on investor confidence has been severe: from a 52-week high of €45.20 in summer 2025, the share price collapsed to €4.25 by February 2026.

Operational Pipeline Offers a Glimmer of Hope
Despite the balance sheet turmoil, the company's operational business shows some positive developments. In the latest tender by the German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur), ABO WIND secured contracts for three solar parks with a combined capacity of 50 megawatts at an average price of 5.00 cents per kilowatt-hour. Construction is scheduled to begin in autumn 2026.
The management's medium-term strategy focuses on transforming into an independent power producer, supported by a project pipeline totaling around 30 gigawatts. The current restructuring phase is being managed through an ongoing efficiency program and a standstill agreement with banking partners finalized in January.
The established financial calendar will provide concrete data on operational progress:
* 22 June 2026: Publication of the 2025 annual financial report
* 13 August 2026: Ordinary Annual General Meeting
