SK Hynix Launches Dual-Pronged Funding Drive to Cement AI Leadership

SK Hynix orders $7.9B in ASML EUV scanners for HBM production and files for a US ADR listing to raise ~$10B, fueling its AI memory market leadership.

In a decisive move to secure its position at the forefront of the artificial intelligence memory market, South Korean semiconductor giant SK Hynix is initiating two major billion-dollar projects. The company’s strategy underscores a critical industry belief: maintaining leadership requires aggressive, timely investment.

Securing Next-Generation Manufacturing Tools

A cornerstone of this initiative is a substantial equipment order. SK Hynix has placed orders with Dutch lithography specialist ASML for extreme ultraviolet (EUV) scanners. The value of these production systems is approximately 12 trillion won, or $7.9 billion. Deliveries for these advanced machines are scheduled through December 2027.

This investment is directly targeted at ramping up production of next-generation High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM). HBM is the crucial memory type powering advanced AI applications and data centers. SK Hynix, a key HBM supplier to industry leader Nvidia, is deeply embedded in the global AI infrastructure. The company anticipates that demand for this specialized memory will remain robust at least through 2027.

Tapping the U.S. Capital Markets for Expansion

Concurrently, SK Hynix is pursuing a significant listing on a U.S. exchange to fuel its expansion plans. The company has confidentially filed a registration statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for the listing of American Depositary Receipts (ADRs).

The objective is to complete this transaction by 2026, with an aim to raise between 10 and 15 trillion won. This equates to roughly $10 billion. Gaining access to the deep pools of U.S. capital would significantly broaden SK Hynix’s investor base and solidify the financial foundation needed for expanding its production capacity.

Market confidence in this aggressive growth strategy appears strong. Since October 2025, SK Hynix shares have surged nearly 94%, trading well above their 50-day moving average—a performance reflecting investor optimism about the company’s strategic direction in the high-stakes AI sector.
