Mass production of a new memory module critical for next-generation artificial intelligence systems is now underway at SK Hynix. The South Korean chipmaker confirmed the series production start of its SOCAMM2 module over the weekend, securing a vital component for Nvidia's upcoming Vera Rubin AI platform slated for release in the second half of 2026.

This strategic move reinforces SK Hynix's dominant position in the high-stakes AI memory market. The company already leads in supplying high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips to Nvidia, and the early launch of SOCAMM2 extends that technological lead, putting rivals Samsung and Micron under significant pressure to catch up.

The 192-gigabyte SOCAMM2 module is engineered to bridge the gap between costly HBM and standard DDR5 memory in data centers. Utilizing a 1cnm sixth-generation process based on power-efficient LPDDR5X technology—originally developed for mobile devices—the module delivers a substantial leap in performance for server racks. It doubles the bandwidth of conventional RDIMM modules while slashing power consumption by over 75 percent, with a data transfer rate reaching 9.6 gigabits per second. For server operators, this translates to using just one-third of the energy previously required.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying SK Hynix?

Investors cheered the development, pushing SK Hynix shares to a historic high of 1,175,000 won on Monday. While some institutional investors took profits at that peak, analyst sentiment remains overwhelmingly bullish. Price targets currently range between 1.5 million and 1.9 million won, suggesting further upside. Analysts at Korea Investment & Securities recently raised their full-year profit forecast by 28 percent, citing unexpectedly strong pricing power for both DRAM and NAND products.

A key design feature for data center adoption is the module's form factor. Unlike typical LPDDR memory, SOCAMM2 is not permanently soldered to the motherboard, greatly simplifying future hardware upgrades. Within the Vera Rubin architecture, it will serve a central buffering role, managing frequently accessed data between the ultra-fast HBM and the main system memory to alleviate bottlenecks in training large language models.

The financial picture for SK Hynix appears equally robust, with the next major checkpoint arriving on April 23. The company is scheduled to release preliminary first-quarter results, with the market consensus from 15 securities firms pointing to explosive growth. Revenue is estimated at approximately 53 trillion won, while operating profit is expected to reach 38.29 trillion won—a surge of over 400 percent compared to the same period last year.

CEO Kwak Noh-jung is positioning the firm for sustained high demand, recently declaring the AI boom the new industrial standard. To secure its supply chains, SK Hynix has even launched a dedicated academy for its suppliers. The delivery of the new SOCAMM2 components is set to begin in the second half of this year, perfectly timed to flank the Vera Rubin platform launch. Looking further ahead, the company plans to start shipments of its next-generation HBM4 memory for Nvidia platforms by the end of the year.
