Sigma Lithium Secures Funding for Major Brazilian Expansion

Sigma Lithium strengthens its balance sheet with $296M in prepayments & guarantees to fund its Brazilian expansion without diluting equity, driving shares up over 8%.

Sigma Lithium Resources has fortified its financial position with a series of strategic moves, providing substantial liquidity to fund its ambitious growth plans in Brazil without resorting to a dilutive equity raise. The company's shares surged over 8% in European trading following the announcements.

The cornerstone of this strengthened balance sheet is a combination of prepayments and credit facilities secured in early 2026. The company finalized two key offtake agreements that brought in $146 million in customer prepayments. This was complemented by a separate $50 million prepayment agreement finalized in early April. Furthermore, Sigma Lithium signed a $100 million bank guarantee with a leading Brazilian financial institution on April 2.

This financial maneuvering comes on the back of a robust operational performance. For the fourth quarter of 2025, the miner generated operating cash flow of $31 million, achieving a cash margin of 47%. This solid foundation and the new liquidity injections are earmarked for the massive Phase 2 expansion of its Grota do Cirilo project.

The expansion aims to nearly double the annual production capacity of its high-purity lithium concentrate from 270,000 tonnes to 520,000 tonnes. The focus is on scaling the Greentech industrial plant efficiently. Market observers now closely watch whether the company can meet its ambitious production targets without placing additional burden on shareholders.

Investors responded positively to the news, driving the stock price higher. Shares gained 8.11% to trade at €12.80, continuing a positive trend that has seen the stock rise approximately 13.7% over the past 30 days. Despite the recent rally, a gap remains to its 52-week high of €14.30.

Beyond sheer volume, Sigma Lithium is betting on sustainability as a key competitive edge. Its "Quintuple Zero Green Lithium" standard is designed to meet the stringent requirements of global battery makers. This aligns with a broader regional trend across Latin America, where exploration for lithium and copper is intensifying. The drive is fueled by an international push to diversify supply chains and reduce the dominance of Asian market players.

Operating in this environment carries inherent challenges, including navigating regulatory shifts and political risks within Latin American jurisdictions. The company's ability to manage these factors while executing its growth plan is critical.
