Siemens Energy Unveils Dual Strategy: Share Buyback and Index Promotion
08.03.2026 - 04:06:14 | boerse-global.de
Siemens Energy is launching a powerful two-pronged initiative, signaling a robust phase in its corporate evolution. The company has simultaneously announced a major share repurchase plan and secured a prestigious promotion to a leading European stock index, underpinned by a surge in its financial performance.
Strong Operational Results Drive Capital Allocation
The strategic moves are founded on exceptionally strong quarterly figures. For the first quarter, Siemens Energy reported a 33% surge in new orders, reaching €17.6 billion. This propelled its order backlog to a record €146 billion. Net income soared to €746 million, with earnings per share improving dramatically from €0.23 to €0.79.
A standout performer was the Gas Services division, which booked 102 gas turbines—already surpassing half of the previous year's total volume of 194 turbines. Furthermore, revenue from hyperscalers in the Grid business doubled, exceeding the €2 billion mark. This growth is largely fueled by the artificial intelligence boom, which demands vast amounts of reliable power for data centers.
A €2 Billion Buyback and Dividend Return
Concurrent with these results, the company initiated a share repurchase program on March 4. The program is authorized to buy back up to €2 billion worth of stock, or a maximum of 70 million shares, with completion targeted by the end of September. In a parallel return of capital to shareholders, the annual general meeting approved the reinstatement of a dividend after a three-year hiatus, setting the payout at €0.70 per share.
Entry into the Stoxx Europe 50
Adding to the positive momentum, Siemens Energy will join the Stoxx Europe 50 index on March 23, replacing spirits manufacturer Diageo. This fast-entry inclusion by index provider Stoxx Ltd. is a direct response to the company's significantly increased market capitalization, which now stands at approximately €132 billion. Since the start of the year, the share price has advanced by roughly a quarter.
The company is also committing substantial investment to its industrial footprint, allocating $1 billion to expand its US manufacturing sites and planning significant increases in staffing levels.

Wind Unit Remains a Focus Area
Despite the broad positive trends, the wind power subsidiary Siemens Gamesa continues to be a critical watchpoint. After reporting an annual loss of €1.36 billion, its deficit narrowed to €46 million in the first quarter of the 2026 fiscal year. While the goal of reaching breakeven within the current business year appears closer, it has not yet been definitively achieved.
This segment remains a topic of debate. While US activist investor Ananym has called for a separation from the wind unit, institutional investors such as DWS and Union Investment have expressed support for management's current strategy.
Confirmed Outlook and Raised Targets
For the full 2026 fiscal year, Siemens Energy reaffirmed its guidance, anticipating revenue growth of 11 to 13 percent, a profit margin before special items of 9 to 11 percent, and net income between €3 and €4 billion. Looking further ahead, the company has raised its medium-term margin target for 2028 to 14 to 16 percent, a significant increase from the previous goal of 10 to 12 percent.
Investors will gain further insight with the release of second-quarter results on May 12. This update is expected to clarify whether the recovery at Siemens Gamesa is sustainable and if the strong demand from AI-driven data center business persists.
