A landmark barter deal with Amazon Web Services has given Siemens Energy a powerful new narrative, even as broader market jitters briefly clipped its soaring share price. The company is trading physical power infrastructure for cloud computing services in a partnership that directly targets the booming data center market.

Under the agreement, Siemens Energy will use AWS platforms, including Amazon Bedrock for generative AI, to modernize its own manufacturing and supply chains. In return, it becomes a key infrastructure supplier, providing turnkey substation solutions to connect Amazon data centers to the grid and designing backup power systems at a gigawatt scale. This strategic move capitalizes on two of the strongest growth themes in the global economy.

Operational Strength and Shareholder Returns

The company's fundamental story remains robust. First-quarter net profit nearly tripled year-on-year to 746 million euros. Its order backlog hit a record 146 billion euros, with new orders jumping 33% to 17.6 billion euros. Demand is so strong that gas turbine manufacturing capacity is fully booked through 2028, with initial orders already placed for 2030.

Management has reaffirmed its full-year guidance, targeting revenue growth of 11-13%, a net income between 3 and 4 billion euros, and a free cash flow before taxes of 4-5 billion euros. Supporting the share price is an ongoing buyback program. Between March 30 and April 6, the company repurchased nearly 1.5 million shares. A broader program running through fiscal 2028 aims to buy back stock worth up to 6 billion euros.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Siemens Energy?

A Sudden Market Test

This strong operational backdrop faced a sudden test from geopolitics. Reports of a blockade in the Strait of Hormus, a critical chokepoint for global energy shipments, rattled markets and sent Siemens Energy's stock down roughly 2% to around 164 euros on Monday. The incident sparked fears of supply chain disruption, higher energy costs, and delayed central bank rate cuts, injecting uncertainty across the sector.

Despite this short-term pressure, the stock's longer-term performance underscores deep-seated investor confidence. Over the past twelve months, Siemens Energy shares have rallied an impressive 189%.

The Persistent Challenge and Upcoming Catalyst

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy remains the company's most significant challenge. While the wind unit's quarterly loss narrowed dramatically to 46 million euros from 374 million euros a year ago, it is still expected to report a negative result for the first half. Reaching profitability is the clear goal, but the break-even point has not yet been achieved.

Siemens Energy at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

All eyes are now on the full half-year report due on May 12, which will be released after a standard quiet period. Analysts expect full-year 2026 earnings per share of 3.96 euros and a dividend of 1.69 euros. The report will be scrutinized for progress at Siemens Gamesa and free cash flow development, offering a clear view of whether the company's ambitious targets can withstand both internal challenges and a turbulent external environment.

Beyond the earnings report, Siemens Energy recently secured a major 3-billion-pound contract for the Eastern Green Link 4 project in the UK. The 530-kilometer high-voltage direct current subsea link between Scotland and England is scheduled for construction start in 2028 and completion in 2033.
