Siemens Energy's Buyback-Fueled Rally Nears a Critical Juncture

Siemens Energy shares hit record highs on buybacks & strong results, but future growth depends on fixing the troubled Siemens Gamesa wind division.

Siemens Energy shares are trading near record highs, but a stark divide is opening between the stock's momentum and analyst sentiment. The stock reached a fresh 52-week peak of 170.92 euros this week, capping a staggering 194 percent surge over the past twelve months. This rally is being propelled by a massive share repurchase program and robust financials, yet the path forward hinges almost entirely on the troubled wind unit, Siemens Gamesa.

A Market Divided on Valuation

The analyst community is sending mixed signals. Barclays recently raised its price target from 90 to 100 euros but maintained an "Equal-Weight" rating, suggesting the stock's risk-reward profile is balanced at current levels. In stark contrast, JPMorgan advocates an "Overweight" position with a 200-euro fair value estimate. With the stock currently at 170.10 euros, it already trades above the average analyst target of 159.40 euros, indicating the market's optimism is running ahead of fundamental consensus.

This optimism is being technically supported by aggressive corporate action. Siemens Energy is buying back its own shares at a rapid clip, acquiring 8.42 million shares since the program launched on March 4, 2026. Purchases of 1.09 million shares in the second week of April alone demonstrate the pace. The company plans to spend up to two billion euros on buybacks by September 2026, with a long-term framework envisaging up to six billion euros through 2028. This constant demand is a key driver behind the stock's 38 percent year-to-date gain.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Siemens Energy?

Strong Foundations with a Persistent Flaw

Operationally, the company's core business is on solid ground. First-quarter net profit tripled to 746 million euros, and the order backlog swelled to a record 146 billion euros. Sectors like grid technology and gas turbines are thriving, fueled by global investments in data centers and AI infrastructure. Geopolitical risks also appear contained; CFO Maria Ferraro expects US import tariff impacts to be in the low triple-digit million-euro range, mitigated by the firm's 28 local production sites in the United States.

The persistent weakness, however, remains Siemens Gamesa. The wind unit posted a loss of 46 million euros last quarter and is not expected to reach operational break-even until the second half of the 2026 fiscal year. Management has made this turnaround a strict condition for its full-year guidance, which targets revenue growth of 11 to 13 percent and net profit of up to four billion euros.

All Eyes on the May Earnings Report

The next major test arrives on May 12, 2026, when Siemens Energy reports second-quarter results. Investors will scrutinize the progress at Gamesa and details on margin development. The company's own confidence is reflected in dividend expectations; FactSet analysts forecast a 2026 payout of 1.70 euros per share, more than double the 0.70 euros distributed for 2025.

The stock's meteoric rise has created a significant gap, trading roughly 40 percent above its 200-day moving average and nearly 10 percent above its 50-day average. While the buyback program provides a powerful floor, the sustainability of the rally now depends on a single, uncertain factor: delivering a profitable wind business. If Gamesa stumbles, the impressive 194 percent gain of the past year could face a severe correction.
