Samsung Electronics is posting record operational performance, yet a significant internal crisis is escalating. As the tech behemoth asserts its dominance in AI semiconductors and televisions, the threat of industrial action looms large. Investors are now weighing whether the company's technological advances can offset the substantial risk of a potential production halt.

Looming Threat of Industrial Action

The company's strong operational results are shadowed by growing internal discord. Following the collapse of wage negotiations and the conclusion of mediation, the possibility of a strike has become acute.

The core dispute centers on the current cap for performance-based bonuses, which is limited to 50% of an employee's annual salary. The union is demanding the complete removal of this ceiling. Management cites the need for equitable structures across all business divisions, but tensions are rising between the volatile semiconductor unit and the more stable consumer electronics sectors.

For now, production remains at significant risk despite full order books, as no resolution with the workforce appears imminent.

Securing a Foothold in the Critical AI Chip Race

Strategic progress in the semiconductor division is currently paramount. The company's new HBM4 (High Bandwidth Memory) modules have successfully passed qualification with key clients NVIDIA and AMD. Mass production for these advanced components commenced this month.

Initial shipments are already scheduled to support NVIDIA's upcoming "Rubin" AI accelerators, expected to be showcased at the GTC conference in March. This achievement follows substantial investment, with over 48 trillion Won channeled into the division in 2023 alone, a year in which it also recorded significant operating losses.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Samsung Electronics?

Sustained Dominance in Core Hardware Markets

The strength of Samsung's traditional product lineup remains evident. The company has secured its position as the global television market leader for the 20th consecutive year, capturing a 29.1% revenue share of the total market in 2025.

Its command is particularly pronounced in the high-margin premium segment, defined as devices priced above $2,500, where it controls 54.3% of the market. To maintain this lead, the conglomerate plans to introduce new Micro-RGB models. Success is also evident in mobile; the new Galaxy S26 smartphone has already garnered 1.35 million pre-orders in South Korea.

The near-term trajectory for Samsung will likely be dictated by two pivotal factors: the successful demonstration of its AI technology at this month's GTC conference and the successful avoidance of widespread labor strikes.
