Ripple Secures Australian License in Strategic Payments Push

Ripple secures key Australian financial license, enabling full payment services. XRP ETFs attract $1.4B in institutional inflows, with Goldman Sachs as a major holder.

Ripple has advanced its international growth strategy by obtaining a crucial financial services license in Australia. The company achieved this through the acquisition of BC Payments Australia, a move that paves the way for deploying its full suite of payment platform services to the Australian market.

Institutional Investment Hits Record Levels

Alongside its regulatory progress, institutional interest in XRP has surged, as evidenced by exchange-traded fund (ETF) flows. Since their launch in November 2025, these investment vehicles have attracted net inflows totaling approximately $1.4 billion. Goldman Sachs has emerged as the single largest institutional holder, with a position worth about $154 million spread across ETF providers including Bitwise, Franklin Templeton, Grayscale, and 21Shares.

The stability of these products has been notable. Despite periods of broader market volatility, XRP ETFs have recorded net outflows on only nine days since their inception. Currently, retail investors account for roughly 84% of the total ETF assets, while the 30 largest institutional holders collectively control around $211 million.

A Global Licensing Framework Takes Shape

The Australian acquisition is part of a concerted global licensing campaign. Ripple previously gained approval in the United Kingdom in January 2026, followed by Luxembourg in February. With the Australian Financial Services License (AFSL) now secured, the company holds more than 75 regulatory approvals worldwide.

This expansion is strategically timed. Payment volumes in the Asia-Pacific region nearly doubled in 2025. Australia is not a new territory for Ripple, which already collaborates with local partners such as Novatti Group, Flash Payments, and Independent Reserve. The newly acquired license will enable the firm to transition these partnerships into a fully regulated operational framework.

Furthermore, Ripple is participating in the Reserve Bank of Australia's "Project Acacia," an initiative exploring the use of the XRP Ledger in the context of digital central bank currencies.

Ecosystem Activity Contrasts with Token Price

On-chain activity remains robust. The XRP Ledger is currently processing around 2.7 million transactions daily. The total value of tokenized real-world assets on the ledger stands at approximately $474 million. Meanwhile, Ripple's stablecoin, RLUSD, achieved a market capitalization of $1 billion within its first year of operation.

Despite these positive fundamental developments, the price of XRP itself trades about 26% below its level at the start of the year. Whether the Australian license and growing institutional investment can support the token's price in the second half of 2026 will largely depend on how swiftly Ripple can convert its new regulatory standing into tangible transaction volume.
