Palantir Technologies Inc. is experiencing a dual tailwind. A fresh US defense contract secured with GE Aerospace bolsters its government business, while a notable shift in sentiment among several equity researchers provides additional support. This development is subtly reframing the market narrative, moving beyond accusations of mere hype to focus on the sustainability of the company's growth and how much of that potential is already reflected in its valuation.

Shifting Sentiment on Wall Street

A change in tone from financial analysts accompanies the recent contract news. Rosenblatt Securities initiated coverage on Palantir with a "Buy" rating, assigning a price target of $150. Earlier in February, Mizuho analyst Gregg Moskowitz upgraded the stock from "Neutral" to "Outperform," maintaining a $195 price objective.

Mizuho's rationale focuses less on defense and more on commercial momentum. The bank argues that the valuation has become less "stretched" following a pullback at the start of the year. It notes that the enterprise value-to-free cash flow ratio for 2026 compressed by an estimated 46% in the year's first few weeks, improving the risk-reward profile.

New Defense Contract with GE Aerospace

In late February, GE Aerospace brought Palantir into a new US defense initiative. The project focuses on enhancing the readiness of the US Air Force's T-38 training aircraft fleet and maintaining their J85 engines. The initial contract term is seven months, followed by an option extending for over four years.

The core of the deal involves Palantir using its artificial intelligence and data analytics platform to integrate information from the Air Force, the Defense Logistics Agency, and GE. The goal is to improve the prediction of parts demand and identify supply chain bottlenecks more rapidly. This program builds upon a prior test that involved more than 6,000 J85 engine components. Ultimately, it represents a practical application where Palantir's technology is embedded directly into operational logistics workflows, rather than simply delivering analytical reports.

Growth Drivers and Persistent Challenges

The most powerful growth engine in the bullish thesis remains the US commercial segment, where revenue surged 137% year-over-year in the last quarter. Mizuho interprets this as evidence that businesses are moving beyond experimentation to actively integrating AI into core processes, making Palantir's AIP software more "sticky" and harder to replace.

The government segment continues to provide steady momentum. US government revenue increased by 66% recently and constitutes approximately 41% of total sales. Analysts anticipate robust demand in this area, given the ongoing modernization trends within the defense sector.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Palantir?

However, clear headwinds persist. International commercial revenue grew by only 8% in the fourth quarter. CEO Alex Karp pointed to challenges in Europe, including slower adoption rates and a preference for local providers. If this segment fails to accelerate, the company's growth story will remain heavily concentrated in the United States.

Furthermore, political and social scrutiny presents a persistent overhang. Palantir's work in surveillance and government programs attracts criticism; in early 2026, 13 former employees publicly voiced their disapproval. Reports indicate this has not caused measurable revenue damage to date but does elevate the "headline risk" for future client relationships.

Regarding the stock's performance, the closing price on Friday was €116.14. Despite recent recovery, the shares show a decline of 7.01% over a 30-day period, indicating continued vulnerability to shifts in market sentiment.

Palantir is scheduled to release its next quarterly results on May 5, 2026. Until then, key catalysts will likely include new government contracts, developments in the defense budget, and demand trends for AI platforms. Nevertheless, the stock's elevated valuation continues to act as a natural ceiling, limiting upside in the event of any disappointments.
