Northern Star Resources Advances Expansion and Shareholder Returns
08.04.2026 - 05:16:14 | boerse-global.deThe Australian gold miner Northern Star Resources is making significant strides on its dual-path strategy of growth investment and capital returns to shareholders. Recent developments highlight progress at its key KCGM milling expansion and a new commitment to share buybacks, underscoring management's confidence in the company's financial position.
Shareholder Returns Take Center Stage
In a move directly aimed at enhancing shareholder value, Northern Star's board has authorized a new share buyback program. The initiative is set to run for twelve months and has a maximum value of 500 million Australian dollars. This capital return effort complements the company's existing dividend policy, which targets a payout ratio of 20% to 30% of cash earnings.
The company's shares are currently trading at 13.41 Euros. Market technicians note that the Relative Strength Index (RSI) reading of 72.5 suggests the stock may be in technically overbought territory following a period of recent volatility.

Operational Milestones and Cost Discipline
On the operational front, Northern Star reported preliminary gold sales of 381,000 ounces for the quarter ending in March. A cornerstone of its long-term production profile remains the expansion of the KCGM (Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines) mill, a project now reported as 86% complete. Commissioning is scheduled for the beginning of the 2027 financial year, with the upgrade expected to deliver a substantial boost to operational efficiency at the Kalgoorlie site.
The company has set a specific production target for the KCGM operations, aiming for an output between 750,000 and 800,000 ounces by the 2027 financial year.
Despite a global backdrop of cost inflation affecting the mining sector, Northern Star maintains a disciplined approach to capital allocation. The company continues to target group-wide production of more than 1.5 million ounces of gold for the 2026 financial year.
