The exponential growth in artificial intelligence processing power over the past two decades has exposed a critical bottleneck: global network infrastructure is struggling to keep pace. Finnish telecommunications equipment provider Nokia is now targeting this very gap. Through a new generation of optical networking chips and strategic acquisitions, the company aims to alleviate impending data congestion and establish itself as an indispensable partner for modern data centers.

Accelerated Development and Strategic Integration

A key driver behind Nokia's recent progress is the integration of the Infinera division. This move to bring chip manufacturing in-house has dramatically shortened development cycles. The company has reduced the time required to create new optical components from 48 months down to just 18 months, enabling a much faster response to market demands.

A Multi-Pronged Approach: Hardware and Software

At the recent OFC 2026 trade fair, Nokia's management unveiled its technical solution to handle rapidly expanding AI workloads. The centerpiece is a suite of four new digital signal processors, each designed for specific network applications. The flagship model, dubbed "Superior," is engineered to manage capacities of 2.4 Terabits while simultaneously reducing network operators' total cost of ownership by an estimated 60 percent.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nokia?

Beyond pure hardware, the corporation is concurrently expanding its software ecosystem. A new collaboration with Stelia AI focuses on securing powerful AI applications for enterprise environments in sectors such as finance and aviation. This initiative is supported by the acquisition of technology assets from the provider Rapid. The purchase of a substantial API hub along with its development team is intended to bolster Nokia's proprietary platform. The objective is to better engage external developers and more effectively monetize existing 4G and 5G infrastructure.

Market Analysts Weigh In

These strategic shifts have elicited varied responses from market observers. Analysts at Jefferies have raised their price target significantly to €8.80, citing stronger-than-anticipated growth in the optical networking market. Conversely, experts at SEB have downgraded the stock to a "Hold" rating, though they also increased their target price to €7.40. Their rationale is that the robust outlook following the recent rally is already reflected in the current share valuation.

The equity has indeed demonstrated notable performance. Closing yesterday at €7.18, the stock has advanced by nearly 29 percent since the start of the year and is trading comfortably above its 50-day moving average of €6.35.

By accelerating its development cycle and maintaining a clear focus on AI infrastructure, Nokia has operationally repositioned itself. The tangible execution of its API monetization strategy and the forthcoming order intake for its new signal processors now represent the key measurable factors for the company's fundamental trajectory in the current fiscal year.
