Nemetschek Shares Face Headwinds Amid AI Disruption Concerns

Despite record revenue and profit, Nemetschek's stock slumps as UBS slashes price target, citing AI disruption risks to its core software business segments.

While the German software group Nemetschek has posted robust preliminary figures for 2025, investor sentiment is being overshadowed by a more pressing narrative: the potential for artificial intelligence to disrupt core segments of its business. This specific concern has prompted a significant reassessment from analysts at UBS, who have adopted a far more cautious stance on the company's valuation.

Preliminary 2025 Results Exceed Expectations

Operationally, the past year proved stronger than anticipated. On a currency-adjusted basis, revenue climbed 22.6% to €1.19 billion. This performance not only surpassed the upgraded guidance range of 20% to 22% issued in July but also marked the first time the company has broken the billion-euro revenue threshold.

Profitability metrics were equally impressive. Currency-adjusted EBITDA surged 28.9% to €371.1 million, with the corresponding margin reaching 31.2%—precisely hitting management's target.

Market Performance Tells a Different Story

Despite these solid fundamentals, the market's reception has been tepid. Shares closed at €69.40 on Friday, representing a modest single-day gain of 1.31%. However, the stock remains under significant pressure, down 40.78% over the past twelve months and 23.19% since the start of the year. Furthermore, the current trading price sits approximately 8.52% below its 50-day moving average of €75.86, indicating a sustained short-term downward trend.

UBS Downgrades Price Target on AI Fears

The divergence between operational strength and share price weakness was crystallized in a recent analyst move. On March 5, the Swiss banking giant UBS slashed its price target for Nemetschek dramatically from €137.50 to €74.00, while maintaining a "Neutral" rating.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nemetschek?

UBS analysts identified AI-driven displacement effects as the primary catalyst for this reassessment, a risk factor investors are now taking seriously. Their analysis suggests that "significant investment" in AI capabilities has become imperative, a necessity that could pressure profit margins and, to a lesser extent, moderate the pace of future growth. The firm views Nemetschek's media segment and its older design software portfolio as particularly vulnerable to this technological shift.

Management Counters with an "AI-First" Pivot

In response to the growing industry debate, Nemetschek's leadership is adopting an offensive strategy. CEO Yves Padrines is championing an "AI-first" approach, expressing confidence that the company stands to benefit disproportionately from new technologies. He anticipates sustainable and profitable growth continuing into 2026.

Investors will not have to wait long for more concrete details. The company is scheduled to release its full annual financial report on March 19, 2026. This disclosure is expected to shed light on the extent to which AI investment and strategic priorities are already embedded in the plans for the coming year, and whether the market will regain confidence in the firm's new strategic direction.
