A new analysis from Bernstein Research highlights artificial intelligence as an emerging challenge for TUI's operational framework, though the level of risk varies significantly across the company's different business divisions. While maintaining a "Market-Perform" rating and a 9.20 euro price target, analyst Richard J. Clarke's research pinpoints areas where the travel giant could be vulnerable.

Current Market Performance and Valuation

TUI's shares currently trade at 6.74 euros, meaning Bernstein's confirmed target price suggests a potential upside of more than 30 percent. This substantial gap underscores a disconnect with the firm's fundamental assessment. Year-to-date performance has been weak, with the stock losing approximately 24 percent of its value. It is also trading notably below its 200-day moving average of 8.03 euros.

Recent trading activity has been turbulent. The share price slipped back below the 20-day line near 6.90 euros in today's session, a level it had only briefly reclaimed yesterday. Market observers are now watching to see if support around 6.70 euros will hold in the coming days. A difficult broader environment, characterized by rising energy costs and geopolitical tensions, continues to weigh on sentiment across the tourism sector.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying TUI?

Divergent AI Exposure: Cruises Versus Hotels

Bernstein's examination reveals a stark contrast in how AI could affect TUI's core segments. The cruise business appears relatively insulated. The research notes that the complex advisory process involved in booking a sea voyage is difficult to fully automate, suggesting AI will likely play a supplementary, supportive role here.

The hotel segment presents a different and more pressing risk profile. Clarke anticipates a noticeable shift, where AI-powered tools could significantly strengthen the direct booking channels of major hotel brands. This development would increasingly pressure intermediaries like TUI. The analysis emphasizes that control over the customer interface equates to control over the business—a position now under threat in this division.

Despite the near-term technical pressures, Bernstein's fundamental view acknowledges underlying value in the equity. However, this longer-term perspective does little to brighten the immediate outlook for the stock.
