F-35 Advances with AI-Powered Combat Identification

In a key advancement for its aeronautics segment, Lockheed Martin has successfully completed a flight test of an artificial intelligence-enhanced combat identification capability for the F-35 fighter jet. The demonstration, conducted under Project Overwatch at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, showcased a tactical AI and machine learning model.

During the test flight, the system generated an independent target identification in real-time, which was then relayed to the pilot's display. The core objective of this technology is to process sensor data more rapidly, identify potential threats faster, and ultimately speed up critical decision cycles during missions.

Naval Systems Division Lands Substantial Anti-Submarine Warfare Contract

Concurrently, the company's Rotary and Mission Systems division has been awarded a pivotal contract related to the AN/SQQ?89A(V)15 anti-submarine warfare combat system. The U.S. Navy contract has a potential ceiling value of approximately $479.9 million and could extend over a period of up to five years.

The initial commitment is a base order worth $78.4 million. Under this agreement, Lockheed Martin will provide engineering services, program management, and system integration and certification support for both current and future baseline configurations. The work is designed to maintain and enhance the operational capability of surface ship-based undersea warfare systems. Technologically, the system utilizes a combination of active and passive sonar methods, aiding in submarine detection and providing early warning against threats such as torpedoes.

The contract also includes Foreign Military Sales components for key allied nations, specifically Japan and Australia. This underscores the deal's strategic importance in fostering compatible defense capabilities among crucial international partners.

Work will be performed across facilities in Virginia, Pennsylvania, and California. The base period of performance is scheduled to run through February 2027, with additional years possible if all contract options are exercised. The contracting authority is the U.S. Navy's Naval Sea Systems Command.
