Lockheed Martin Ramps Up Missile Output Amid Major Defense Contracts
26.03.2026 - 04:43:19 | boerse-global.deLockheed Martin is accelerating production of its latest precision-guided missile system following its successful combat debut. The U.S. Department of Defense is pushing for a significant expansion in manufacturing capacity, a move that coincides with the defense contractor securing substantial new contracts for submarine technology and demonstrating advanced space capabilities.
Stock Performance and Strategic Leadership Shift
The company's shares, which have already advanced more than 27% this year, closed at 539.90 euros in the latest trading session. This positive market sentiment is accompanied by an internal leadership update, with Jenna McMullin assuming the role of Chief Communications Officer effective immediately.
Quadrupling Precision Strike Missile Production
Central to the recent developments is a new multi-year framework agreement with the Pentagon aimed at quadrupling the output of the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM). This system is designed to replace the aging Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS). The decision for this rapid scale-up is driven by proven military performance; the long-range missile successfully demonstrated its operational readiness during "Operation Epic Fury" on March 4.
Initial U.S. Army plans for 2026 envisioned production of only 45 missiles. The new contract, which spans up to seven years, now targets an annual production capacity of approximately 550 units. The PrSM boasts a range exceeding 500 kilometers and is launched from existing HIMARS and MLRS platforms.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Lockheed?
Billions in Infrastructure and Naval Sector Wins
To manage this substantial increase in volume, Lockheed Martin is leveraging prior, extensive capital investments. Since 2017, over $7 billion has been allocated to expand production facilities, with $2 billion specifically earmarked for accelerated munitions manufacturing. The PrSM program currently operates highly specialized facilities in Camden, Arkansas, employing more than 400 people.
Concurrently, the company's maritime division has announced another significant award. A new contract for technical support of submarine imaging systems is valued at an initial $478 million. If all contractual options are exercised through March 2036, the total value could reach up to $1.19 billion.
Space Force Collaboration Highlights Rapid Deployment
Operational news was further bolstered by a successful demonstration with the U.S. Space Force. In collaboration with Firefly Aerospace, Lockheed Martin showed on Wednesday that satellite payloads can be prepared for launch within a mere 12-hour timeframe. This simulation proved the capability for an extremely rapid response in space to national security threats.
Lockheed at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
The combination of accelerated missile production, long-term naval contracts, and rapid space deployment capabilities underscores the defense giant's broad strategic positioning. The current focus is on the swift industrial execution of the PrSM framework agreement to meet the ambitious target of 550 missiles per year as planned.
