Institutional Investors Signal Confidence in Qualcomm Stock
08.04.2026 - 05:37:07 | boerse-global.deDespite facing significant pressure since the start of the year, Qualcomm shares are receiving a notable vote of confidence from a powerful segment of the market. Major institutional investors have been actively increasing their holdings, presenting a contrasting narrative to the stock's recent performance.
A Strong Vote from Major Holders
Institutional ownership of Qualcomm now stands at 74.35%, and recent filings show substantial buying activity. Wellington Management Group was a prominent buyer, adding over 7.2 million shares to bring its total holding to nearly 12.4 million. The most dramatic increase came from BXM Wealth LLC, which expanded its position by approximately 870% during the fourth quarter, acquiring 42,210 shares.
This institutional accumulation is complemented by a significant corporate action. In March, Qualcomm's board authorized a new share repurchase program worth up to $20 billion. This substantial buyback initiative, representing as much as 14.5% of outstanding shares, is widely interpreted as management's belief that the stock is currently undervalued.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Qualcomm?
Financial Performance and Market Outlook
The company's recent fundamentals provide context for this growing confidence. For its first fiscal quarter, Qualcomm delivered results that exceeded analyst expectations. Revenue climbed 4.7% year-over-year to $12.25 billion, while earnings per share came in at $3.50, surpassing the consensus estimate of $3.38.
Looking ahead, management provided guidance for the current quarter, projecting EPS in the range of $2.45 to $2.65. For the full fiscal year, analysts, on average, anticipate earnings of $9.39 per share. The consensus rating among the 22 analysts who have issued ratings on the stock over the past 90 days is "Hold." Their average price target is $163.77, which sits well above the recent trading price of approximately 106.54 euros.
Dividend Stability and Future Trajectory
Qualcomm continues to maintain its quarterly dividend of $0.89 per share, which translates to an annualized yield of roughly 2.9%. The current payout ratio is 73.55%; however, estimates suggest this ratio could decline to around 36% in the coming year. Such a reduction would place the dividend on a more sustainable foundation for the long term, potentially freeing capital for other strategic uses like further investment or repurchases.
